Here's my dilema... I have a 550lb spring on my shock (no preloading) right now and the sag is around 22% of my travel, possibly 25% with gear. For DH I know that 30-33% is better but I'm worried that if I drop to a 500lb spring I'm going to have to wind a lot of pre-load on.

So the question, if you swap the spring around on your shock with 50lb difference, what kind of change to you see in your sag?

Thanks.

a 500 lb spring won't change you sag THAT much. You'll be fine dropping that far, maybe even a 450 would be better

Yeah, that site is a great starting point for reference. You won't have to crank up a lot of pre-load for a 50lb difference in spring rate.
