without exception, if i take my hands off the bars over 25 mph, my front breaks out into a speed wobble. this happens if my headshock is either locked or not on a scalpel (large), 2.1"

what should i check?
should i change my grips?
should i just live w/ it?

I bet it is a wheel true or a tire seat issue. Does your fork move when you hold the frame?

zero flex in fork, fore or aft; just rotation. i have a 10 yr old r800 that has "index steering". it's fine when i change my headset, but reverts w/in 1000 miles. apples & coconuts, i know.

i thought about the tire seat; perhaps it's an uneven manufacture. i always buy last years' at closeout - usually maxxis - but this is panaracer (had to use performance bucks before they expired).

Well, it sounds like a headset issue. I would reface the headtube, but you can't with a Headshok.

thanks for the info; it was very useful.
i guess the long frame & saddle height makes sense, as this scalpel frame is longish, but my old caad5 - also large - was a tighter fit & never did it.

so it looks like sending my shok in to get rebuilt probably won't fix this, and besides, the seal is good. it's held 120 lbs for over a year now.
