btw, where'd the genesis of presidential pardons come from? seems like it totally perverts the whole idea of a justice system. i say get rid of it.

Not really a surprise. His lawyer told the jury that he did it in the first week, and then blamed it on Cheney and Rove...

Which is why a pardon is unlikely.

oh, n8's point was a marc rich link (and a host of others at literally the eleventh hour); how could you not see that one coming around the bend?

concept of grace? where's that written in the constitution?

i agree that marc rich was a bogus pardon, but like all things political, it's not just the democrats w/ the dirty hands. i say get rid of the pardon altogether. it's about the closest vestige we have related to the concept of a king.

concept of grace? where's that written in the constitution?article II, section 2.
insert 'forgiveness', if that helps you.

i wonder, since accepting a pardon comes with it implicit acknowledgment of guilt, if you were wrongfully convicted & all appeals were exhausted, would you rather live free as a liar, or remain incarcerated w/ your integrity intact? assume a hyena-ous crime w/ a long sentence for this example.

Just prevent pardons in the last year of a term. Allow them to supply pardons upon merit and not abuse of power.
