Libby Found Guilty in CIA Leak Case

WASHINGTON (AP) - Former White House aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby was convicted Tuesday of obstruction, perjury and lying to the FBI in an investigation into the leak of a CIA operative's identity.

Libby, the former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, was accused of lying and obstructing the investigation into the 2003 leak of CIA operative Valerie Plame's identity to reporters.

He was acquitted of one count of lying to the FBI.

Not really a surprise. His lawyer told the jury that he did it in the first week, and then blamed it on Cheney and Rove...

Which is why a pardon is unlikely.

i agree that marc rich was a bogus pardon, but like all things political, it's not just the democrats w/ the dirty hands. i say get rid of the pardon altogether. it's about the closest vestige we have related to the concept of a king.

i wonder, since accepting a pardon comes with it implicit acknowledgment of guilt, if you were wrongfully convicted & all appeals were exhausted, would you rather live free as a liar, or remain incarcerated w/ your integrity intact? assume a hyena-ous crime w/ a long sentence for this example.

Just prevent pardons in the last year of a term. Allow them to supply pardons upon merit and not abuse of power.
