What's the nearest aiprport to Diablo? I'd be coming from Detroit, just want to keep an eye out for deals over the summer time. Maybe a couple day trip could be had.

if you have your own small plane there are a few local airports. but everything is about 50 miles away.

both Newark and Newburgh (Stewart Airport) are about 45miles away. La Guardia is 62m, and JFK is 73 (although the last two you have to cross several bridges ($$$) and deal with NYC traffic on the Cross Bronx.

actually.... you know, If they are still doing the freeridebus.com (http://freeridebus.com/) thing, JFK would prob. be the eisest/cheapest.

dude go to Newark,it's in NJ so is Diablo.I don't even think Stewart is open anymore, even if it is how many planes go there and for how much extra. From personal experience I think JFK sucks and getting to NJ from there is even worse, check times and dates from Detroit to beautiful sienic Down Neck aka Newark and see what best fits. Don't forget car rental and Newark is very accessable to all the highways you need to get there.

I guess you don't read the papers much?

Port Authority Gains Stewart Airport

Air travelers, rejoice: The Port Authority has decided to lease Stewart Airport. Both Governors Spitzer and Corzine support the plan, and the Port Authority says the deal is "a major milestone."

The agency, overseen by NY and NJ, hopes that by having a fourth area airport, crowding problems at JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark airports can be alleviated. Port Authority officials have projected that JFK, LaGuardia and Newark will grow from 104 million passengers to 150 million in 2025. Stewart Airport, which now has about 300,000 passengers, could triple to 900,000 this year, and, with infrastructure expansion, could grow to handle 10 million.

Some facts about Stewart International Airport: It's 55 north of NYC, near Newburgh (maybe you've been on a flight that's stopped there briefly to refuel); it's a converted Air Force base of 2,400 acres that's actually bigger than Newark; and JetBlue flies out there.

Newark is probably still the best option for cheap flights and cheap rental cars.
