So I just ordered my new steed and it comes spec'd w/ a Fox DHX 4.0 Coil. Next model up comes w/ the 5.0 and I'm wondering if the extra adjustments on the 5.0 are worth having. Also thinking about upgrading the wheelset but not sure a custom set of hoops is in the budget. Suggestions? Thinking DeeMax. Thanks Y'all.

Two questions: what and why? More info needed.

Demo 7 1, DH, FR. Durability more a concern than Weight.

The stock Demo 7 build seems fairly burly. Probably ditch the stock 2.3 tires and throw them on your trail bike, in favor of some 2.5's. You may not miss the adjustable bottom out on the DHX4 with 180mm travel. Wheels should hold up fine.

I think you need those fine tuning adjustments if you are the kind of guy who makes fine tuning adjustments.

People survived fine without bottom out adjustments, so I think it is a bell/whistle, not a feature.

i agree with sanjuro. all you really need is the compression, rebound and preload. the other things are just bells and whistles. also the DHX4 come set in the middle for the bottom out adjust anyway so unless you are a total hack or doing 50' drops you should be fine on that shock. save the money on that and keep in a jar for a rain day when you break something else. also all in all those demo's could built pretty tank. i would say use what it has until it breaks and actually needs to be replaced (though i also guilty when changing parts for the hell of it)

Right on. Kinda what I figured. And as far as the wheels go, I know the stock wheels will hold up but want to keep open the option of ditching them right off the bat and getting something that will last a bit longer. I have not had great luck w/ Specialized hubs.

really bad luck with their hubs?? most people i know run those thing for years without problems. i know how it is though i have a bad capability to break strange parts
