I had a post on here about what freeride frames, but I decided against the Transition Dirtbag because I figured I could get a nicer set up for less on a 7.3. Before dropping the money I just wanted to know if I am going to love this, or not. I also have a couple last questions.

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y138/thelastsession/bike-ps.jpg

So a 7.3 for 1,100 new.

sell the manitou metel r shock
sell the marzocchi drop out 3
sell the wtb dual duty wheelset

Add what- (I'm 230 lbs)
DHX 4 or 5, Roco, or other?
Marzocchi 66... vf2 new? rc2x used?
and wheelset TBC revolution

more goodies like deity bars, tbc pedals, dangerboy levers

I think its good, just want a final thought.

both look good but im worried about my price range. basically...

my budget is 400 for a fork 200 for a shock and 300 for a wheelset which i will break even on if i sell the stuff i dont want on the 7point and use my extra money

2600 is out of my price range, my other options was go used but i dont really want to do that.

with money i have i can buy the 7.3 and sell the stuff on it and end up with 900 basing off 100 for the rims 75 for the shock and 150 on the fork (obo of course)

it will pretty much be a 1,500 7.7 new

That Iron Horse is nice! I would put a fox dhx 5.0 on the rear - the only shock that is worthy of that bike IMO and it has plenty of adjustability. The fork depends on what you will mostly be riding. Where do you live? Are you planning on big drops, stunts, and some DH or will this bike be your one and only do everything bike? Are you going to do any type of xc trail rides on it? For big drops, jumps, and some DH runs I would stick with the Marz. 66 if you are stuck on a single crown. This fork will suck to do much climbing with though!! The fox 36 is a good fork, plenty stiff, but you give up an inch of travel and you have to get the rc2x ($$$$) so you can adjust the compression - otherwise it blows thru the travel too easily. If this is a do it all bike and you are going to do a lot of trail riding that is flat/climbing plus some freeriding you may want to go with the 36. I have hit some big/nasty stuff on mine (Snowshoe/Pisgah/etc..) and it has taken it and asked for more.

As for wheels sun single tracks and from what I hear azonic outlaws are good strong/light wheels especially if your on a budget. For the rest pimp it out however you want - Saint cranks, raceface stem/bars.

I'm sure you will love this sport. Just the fact that you have thought it thru this much tells me you are already into it. Have fun and keep it real.

Oh, and FClinder (the pimp for giant) above is right, the giants are nice bikes - of course he is sponsored by giant so..........:hmm:

Well I've already had 2 bikes but I outrode my FS bike as soon as I got it because I've been dirtbiking forever. I might do some dhing but I wont be racing it. I wont do much trail or climbing, mostly hike-a-bike and lift access. I live in Maine which is kind of flat but my friends have a FR course set up. I also have a FR course built out in my woods. I may get an older 66RC, but I'm not sure about this either. At 230 I think I'd bottom the VF2 too easy, and of course the RC2X is just pimp and 888 on SC. I don't have the money for a 36 really. My fork budget is 400 so I could get a used RC2X... Its not that this is necessarily a "beginner bike" its just trying to be cheap as possible (I dont have that much money) while still being a nasty bike, being a dirtbiker I just have a problem spending 4,000 on a bike that doesn't have an engine.

heres my dirtbike

Nice Dirt bike:thumb: Now I see why you don't have any money!!!
I have to stay away from those - broke too many bones racing
250's years ago. Seeing that you come from that background and how your going to use your bike I'd try and find a used 66 RC or 888 (66 will be cheaper). You can always send it in to marz. down the road when you have more money and get it worked.

I'm 6'1 and ride mediums (17 inch) but I like a smaller bike that I can whip around easier.

I think I may go for the 19" since I dirtbike, I thought I would like to have a bigger bike than I had last year, which was a medium, I'm used to whipping around snowmobiles and dirtbikes... I may be more stable on a larger bike. How much smaller is the bike on you jonny, on my medium I usually found that I would slip off the back of the seat- but that may not be set up as well as the new one. I'm going to the gym I will see what i come back with on a response...

thanks

Im 6'1" and I rode a 19" Iron horse SGS freeride a couple years ago and I was very happy with the size. If you are used to riding dirtbikes youll have no problem whipping around a 19 inch frame, I didnt.

In the end it all comes down to personal preference. I raced motocross for over 15 years and when I first got into DH bikes 7 years ago I liked big bikes with 2.8 - 3 inch tires because just like you I was used to a MX bike. Now though I find a medium to be a perfect size for me as I can get myself out of a bad situation easier, say in a rock garden. I also prefer a 2.5 tire now. I would get whatever is more comfortable to you. If you liked your large from last year then go with that. Like I said I'm 6'1 200lbs and I have a Iron Horse Sunday size medium, Specialized SX Trail size medium, and a Specialized sx slalom bike size long.

The best case if you have an Iron Horse dealer within driving distance go test ride a med and a large before you order. Good luck

okay im going to order the 19" because what the guy said before... i had 2.7's on my last bike and thought that felt comfortable- because im used to riding a tank. friends with 2.5s i did not like as much. im going to order it right now- 19". once i get it all built up you can be sure to have some pictures. i think im going to go with a 150mm 2005 66rc and a dhx5 unless i can find a rc2x.

thanks for the help everyone.

last note...ride the dual duty's till you break em. they don't look like much but they are solid. I still have mine going strong after a year and a half on a fr hardtail.

I'm not sure about the dual dutys. Ive already bent a set of those, so I thought while I had the money I might as well do it right, maybe those will be the last thing I buy or something.

They came stock on my 2005 IH yakuza, despite being pretty cheap looking, they've held up well, about a year on my IH, and then now there I'm urban hardtail, the front is a little off, but the rear is solid.:monkeydance:
