Ok, i need a little help in regards a mountian bike trip i want to do this year. if it was just me going it wouldnt be a big deal but my wife really loves to ride and she really want to go on a trip this year, im very excited that she wants to go, i bought her a new bike this year to help pump her up for the season and it worked she is ready. i want to go some place and will be fun for me and fun for her. i enjoy everything, Downhill, Freeride, single track cross country, stunts, dirt jumps etc. my wife loves fast flowy single track stuf, she also enjoys lift access runs as long as she doesnt have to do anything crazy, she even like ladder bridges and fun stiff. ive been thinking about Snowshoe sounds like a good place for both of us but i have never been, what do you think of it? all opinions appreciated and any recommendations for other places to go, we have been to Diablo and might end up going back but id like something new, im from NY so i dont want to drive much further than snowshoe unless its a killer place to ride. help me out, thanks.

I was going to suggest Snowshoe. My wife and I stayed there last year for a week and it was great. The XC riding is awesome and they have plenty of options for lift assisted trails.

However what about Whiteface? That area is beautiful and there has got to be some awesome XC around. Plus there aren't too many lift areas with runs as long they have. I highly suggest it. It was my favorite new place I went last year.

Depends on your budget, where you live, if you don't mind flying somewhere. I have a long list of places to go myself. My fiance' and I are going to Vancouver and Whistler for our honeymoon in June and from the research I've done there looks to be plenty to keep her happy in the way of a morning flowy type of trail ride and then I can still go find some nasty stuff in the afternoon to ride on my own while she relaxes. This way we both stay happy. We are going to stay on Vancouver Island for the first part of the trip near downtown Victoria and ride a place called Hartland for her morning rides. Then in the afternoon she can walk from our B&B and check out Victoria while I go find some North Shore style rides in Nanaimo and further north. I'll also get a day at Mt. Seymour and one at Kamloops, then the last leg of the trip is in Whistler. You may want to check that out? Some websites I've looked at include www.dirtworld.com, www.nsmb.com, www.simbs.com, www.bcmbg.com, www.nsmba.bc.ca, www.bcadventure.com just to name a few.

As far as Snowshoe goes. Profro is right there are plenty of good xc trails around to ride, but it does tend to get really slick too. I took my fiance' there for a week last year and she hated it, but we had a hard time finding the xc trails and she had to ride the park and DH stuff (i thought she was going to give me that ring back!!!! Straight up the ______ ). It was not until another trip when i found some more xc type of trails. She is a decent rider, but when it gets steep or rooty she is on the brakes full out. Sounds like your wife is a better rider so you may be fine there though.

I'm a big fan of Western North Carolina (Asheville/Pisgah/even Tsali can be fun with the wife) but I'm biased because I live close to it. There is definetly something for everyone there riding wise and Asheville and Henderonville are cool towns to visit.

Maybe some place in the rockies. Colorado has tons of good bike parks (Keystone mtn.) and world class DH runs plus some of the toughest xc you could find. Moab looks like a blast too, although I can't speak from experience. Even Sun Valley in Idaho looks like a fun mountain biking destination with a real laid back atmosphere.

Good luck looking and let us know what you picked out when you decide.

Oopps, sorry I just read the last line of your post that you don't want to drive far:imstupid: Well I gave you some good ideas for the future anyway. You would most likely both have fun at Snowshoe.

Id say Whistler is worth the ride/plane ride. It certainly is like no other. The mountain rocks, and the entire town has an awesome biking vibe. I am a West-Coaster, so I cannot really give you any tips as for near Snowshoe.

I am with Pro-Fro on this,

SnowShoe is a great place to ride! and it has a good atmosphere. go during one of the event weekends, and you will have a blast. If you want to camp you can even throw up your tent there for free. There is a place right at the resort where you can loosen up in a hot tub, swim a bit, and take a shower.

for me SnowShoe was pretty damn nice, specially on a budget!

I can not speak from many other experiences. Snowshoe is pretty much the closest place and nicest place around!

where in NY are you from? If you decide to his SS, and if you are passing by the Pittsburgh area, get in touch with me, and we can do some XC riding on your way to SnowShoe!

hey thanks for all the input, SnowShoe sounds like the place to go. i would love to go to Whistler, and check out the west coast some time but ill have to wait for my wallet to catch up with my plans. my location is in warrensburg NY its about 45 min. north of albany for those of you who have asked. and i would love to take you guy up on your offers to get together and ride, i extend the same invitation to any heading to the north east. there are some good mountains and some good cross country riding as well. Diablo is always a fun spot to hit and whiteface has some great stuff to offer as well, and there is always platekill and jimmy peak.

as for your location it sounds like you are looking to drive. I would go to snowshoe if you have been to diablo, diablo is cool but it doesnt give you the big mountain feel like snowshoe.

One suggestion for a snowshoe trip plan would be to go well into the summer like early july, it is extremely we early season and given the terrain it makes the trails ride totally different. Snowshoe is a dream when the trails are buffed and dry.

how about Killington I've never been there but have been doing some exploring and it looks to be pretty good.I've got a friend who skis there and loves it.i'm planning a trip there this summer with the misses, but she's just in her second year and has to learn how not to crash so we'll be taking it alot easier on the mountain;but check it out north east dirt is is like warm apple pie.
