Why doesn't this work? (.avi files)

I've downloaded a bunch of BBC shows in .avi format that I watch on my computer with winamp and the Divx decoder ( at least, that's how I think I do it)
I was going to watch some on a different computer with the same software, so I burned them onto a DVD as data files. The DVD drive won't recognize the format. What's going on? Did I miss a step or what?

NM, it's working on the other computer, just not on mine. How wierd is that? I've got them on my own HD so I don't need the dvd. ;-)

.avi does not necessarily mean that it's DivX encoded. Could be another type of encoding... :)

you mean you cannot open the data dvd? or that you cannot play the .avi file??

you might need to install k-lite codec pack on the other pc.
