So I've heard alot about painting your frame from Specialized will void the warrenty. But since my Specialized Bighit has a lifetime warrenty, will that only void cosmetic parts of the warrenty? Or does that void the whole frame period (Ex. Cracks, Bends, Snapped parts).

What about just painting over the current frame powdercoat with some pinstripes and a clear coat or something?

thanks in advance, Im just to lazy to send specialized an Email and wait 5 years.

i think that it will void the entire warranty. But i am not sure, you would have to call specialized to be positive.

I would bet it will void the warranty all together! Most companys frown on powdercoating it by someone else other than the company that does their work for them. Because of the chemicals some companys use in the process to strip it can be bad on the aluminum, if not done just right.

Most bike companys WILL VOID A WARRANTY if you don't send the frame in to them to have it done. And I think only smaller companys like Intense will offer that type service. A big company like Specialized probably could care less what color you want your bike to be. That's why you only get one color choice to start with between models.

If you want color options without voiding your warranty, you should purchase from the smaller companys, where they offer several different color options when purchased from them.

better safe than sorry.. call or email them.

Not sure about specialized, but some companies do repaint frames, possibly in different colours..

hmm alright well thanks guys.
I guess I shouldnt paint it, because if the frame does need replacement for w/e reason...then I could probly stretch for a new wheel too since the '05 was the last 24" wheels so maybe they would hook me up with a 26"

cuz technically its there fault if something happens...right?

haha hey, when they say "lifetime warrenty" im getting the most bang for my buck I can out of that. Afterall, I spent 1000's in there name because of the "lifetime warrenty".

I've delt with Specialized Warrenty before and there pretty good about it all and getting you what you want.

I would send in the question to Spesh, but they do allow painting from a shop in Ptown.

Specialized only has a lifetime warranty on the hardtales 3 year on the FS frames. My brother is a warranty rep for the big S. VM

In the US Specialize offers lifetime on all the rames and not just hard tails. Rear swing arms only get a 1 year warranty.

Yeah my BIGHIT owners manual states "Lifetime Warrenty on Frame".

This is in the USA though, could be different somewhere else?
