ok so im on the fence and cant make up my mind. fork will be going on my new Bottlerocket and this bike needs to do it all. on the fly travel adjustment is key, ive owned both Marzocchi and Fox and never had issues with either, they both make great stuff. so which fork would you guys pick or have picked already? 2007 Fox Talas 36R or the 2007 Marzocchi 66 RC2 w/ ETA, and what are your thoughts. help me out. thanks

If you are looking at the TALAS 36 R, not the TALAS 36 RC2, then I would take the 66 over the 36 because the 36 R only has the air chamber and rebound adjustments, while the 66 ETA has external rebound and compression in addition to the ETA system. Now, if you were going for the TALAS 36 RC2, then I would probably choose that one because I believe it is at least a full pound lighter then the 66 ETA, and is you are looking to keep the bike as light as you can. But if you are doing more aggressive freeriding, I would say that a coil-sprung Marzocchi is hard to beat.

I have an 06 66 rc2x that I am more than happy with. But the BR is only 5.5 inches of travel from what I recall so the 180mm of the 07 66 maybe too much. If you can afford it I would look at the Totem 2 step air so you can have adjustable travel and it is lighter then the 66.

66 all the way. What is the ETA adjustment on the new ones? I know my freinds old ETA would drop his fork 2inches, not sure about the new ones thought.
I agree with quickneonrt thought, give the Totem a looking at. They are dope and have super burly 40mm stantions!

if you can afford it, the talas 36 rlc, is an awesome bike, a couple of my friends are running them on their nomads, and I have a regular talas rlc on my 4x, its really nice being able to adjust the travel, and still have an outstanding feeling fork, I have never tryed a 66, but like someone else said, I think the 180mm of travel would rake it out a little bit. But its also a Marzocchi so it would perform outstandingly. So if you can get the money for the 36 rlc go for it dude, but with either fork youll be happy,

I've got the 07 66rc2 eta on my AS-X, love it. As far as ride quality goes, I think it'd be hard to beat. But I agree with a few other posters...180mm might rake out the BR a bit too much. If it were me I'd give the Fox a shot.

talas r. screw the other adjustments, you won't use them anyway. save the weight.

i have a 36 van r on my bottlerocket. i would not go with any more travel than 160mm on that frame. i just rode the bike with a pike (swap from another frame i own) and it made for a great trail experience with the travel set around 120mm. less than 120mm started to feel unbalanced.

if you are not concerned with weight, check the domain. it has the same travel adjust as the lyrik and costs almost half as much. it does weigh a pound more and have the mission control damp. however, i don't know that the mission control will be any better than the motion control (the same damp as my pike, which feels great).

thanks guys, Cam ordered me the Fox Talas 36R the poll was close i have had no complaints with fox or marzocchi, in the end the difference in weight the fox being lighter and the ride height i wasnt sure i would like the extra travel the Marzocchi has the Fox seemed like a good match. and around here its easier to service a fox than a marzocchi, not as many marzocchi reps/dealers. so i should have all my stuff here in a week or so. thanks again, especially to those who already own a BottleRocket and have had some saddle time.
