Hey Bros,
My last thread from a few days ago (HL vs VPFree) with your so much helpful inputs was pretty evident to me that HL scored higher here. If you don't mind I would like to get your input on another frame for this equation, the new Intense SOCOM, what would you say about that (compared to the HL)?

My main concern with the SOCOM is, would it be a lot more 'delicate' (as for being FRO and very light), and not a time lasting frame?
I heard that it was built to last a season or two (thus targeted for racers only).
I am not a pro; I can't say I'm a serial frame wrecker. I do like going fast DH tracks and never too shy of the hard rocky stuff should it be in my path, I like going down technical obstacles.
Maybe the M3 is more 'durable' and long lasting, I know I can still keep it light (frame only 10.5lbs), dilemmas dilemmas...

(Making the decision is a trip, but with your great help, I'm getting there....)

Thanks!

If you are going to be doing any freeriding, I would definitely take the Highline over both the M3 and the SOCOM. Both are designed as downhill race bikes, and the geometry of them is setup for downhilling. I would compare the Highline to the Intense Uzzi VPX, not the SOCOM or the M3, and they are designed for different purposes. Now, if your main focus is going to be on DH, then you would definitely want to look into an M3, which can still be built fairly light, and can handle the freeride abuse, but it's simply built around being a fast DH bike, not a Freeride bike. And if you are wanting to race DH, and want a very fast bike, then the SOCOM would be your best bet of the 3.

But as far as Freeriding, I still say the Highline is the better choice.

you should compare the uzzi vpx vs highline, the uzzi is lower than the highline so it would be better for racing.

I would not buy a socom unless I was semi pro and got a really good deal, it is not a good investment because the resale value is gonna be about $5.

What?

Do you want a DH race bike or something big, heavy and probably slow to jump off high stuff with?

The bikes you are comparing are totally different.

The highline has a fairly high BB... Which I don't like. I might look at the new 7point line for '07. I would highly suggest against the Socom for any sort of freeriding hence the 8 pound DH race frame that it is. I've heard it only has a 6 month warentee due to it's low weight.

For a better suggestion on what kind of bike to get, let us know what kind of trails you're riding, how big are you going, are you wanting to pedal to the top, how light do you want it, how much cash do you have? Those sorts of things. the more info we have the more info we can give back

Just for the record, it carries the same 2 year warranty as the rest of the Intense line up.

If it is going to be riden for a long time and abused, highline, fast downhill sled socom.

Personally I would get a Uzzi.

OK dudes, by now I know it was a bad comparison.
I suppose I was looking at something more DH oriented for fast runs like in bike parks (like in the French Alps Les Gets or whistler). I already own a Heckler with a very aggressive set up intended for abuse. I have taken my options now to choose between the SOCOM & the DHR. both are in my budget limits. BTW I weight 185lbs. I don't go 'big' (like Steve Romaniuk) but I tend to ride pretty aggressively.

Cheers...

dhr, the socom is really a race only bike, it's really light and unproven in durability.

I'm pretty sure it's a 6 month warrenty. I could be wrong, but that's what I've heard from several people.

Nevermind, I take that back: "Please note that while the Socom FRO receives the same great warranty as other Intense frames, they stress that the frame is designed for what it is named -- For Race Only."

Pick up the Jan issue of Decline. They did a review on both bikes
