I have a float R on my DH bike, I am barrowing it to see how an air shock feels , and if it feels like it could work im ganna go get a DHX

IMO they suck for real rocky long DH 'cause they overheat, and there's no mid range feel.
For Sea Otter esque stuff they're fine.

You have nearly 3 thousand posts. Time to invest in spell check, please....
Air shocks kind of work. I used a pushed float on my Splinter for the last part of the season riding and racing at places like Plattekill and Whiteface. For what I was going for (a really short travel DH bike) it was ok. I really wouldn't reccomend an air shock on a longer-travel or higher leveraged bike.

Do a search. Read the last page of the Sunday thread above. Look at ANY video, pic, magazine, etc of competative DH racing.......No one is running a DHX air....
If you need to tell all your friends how much your bike weighs, get one. If you are looking for performance, keep your coil (get a ti spring if you want to save weight).
On a more technical note, air acts as a progressive spring. The very nature of this, makes for an undersrpung mid stroke...usually described as 'wallowy'. To make matters worse, as I understand, the DHX air is missing some internals (that the coil has) that provide mid stroke damping. The numbers are completely made up, but see the graph for a visual of what I am describing...
