Southridge MTB/MX

Is anyone going to the Southridge "Dan Gerardi memorial" MTB/MX this weekend? I heard that it was a pretty fun event.

I'm gonna try to make it. Anyone else?

Alas, I will not... I'm WAY too out of shape to hammer out an MX race... I'll be spending the time riding my mtb and trying to get into some semblance of riding shape...

It's MX races for people in the MTB industry and racers.

I'd love to race, but alas no MX bike....

I don't have one, but my friend in SLO has some little ones (ttr90, klx110, cobra 50). I wish I could go.

it's a bunch of fun friday night with the 50 races and everyone hanging out camp fire style,

saturday is more race action and less hanging out stuff.

i don't know how many people will be there this year? usually it's a small/medium crowd with one main camp fire and a couple seperate smaller ones... makes for a fun night to grab a bunch of brewskis and do a couple of campfire laps after the races are done.

I don't think it's gonna be a hardcore race, well...at least I hope it's not. I have never ridden on a MX course! You should be fine.

the whole deal is being done during biz hours for the track,

so you can ride all day, they have 3 tracks, fri night we have the 50 track to our self, and then sat we will have the vet track to our self for the race.

the last time i rode moto was this deal last year , and before that was the 05 race.... it's not serious it's about fun

i'll be there shooting photo both fri & sat... unfortunately i sold my moto last winter, so i won't be riding/racing.

it's so fun & relaxed... i went a couple of years ago when it was at Glen Helen.... showed up late, had one practice lap & then raced.... first moto race ever & had arm pump from hell.. but it was so much fun...battling it out w/ random people! i need to get a moto again soon!

I'll be out w/ the Utopia mini van & ez up. not sure if i'm camping (tent), or getting a hotel room... i'll probably play it by ear... but most likely i'll end up drinkin, hammered & passing out in the van! haha

see just in this thread here we already have a full fire pit full of bench racing about how fast we used to be...as the night goes on we will get faster of course, and louder...should be a good time!

no real camp sites, it's just where ever you decide to throw it up.

just spoke w/ Don Jackson... there doesn’t seem to be really anything official – I’m sure there will be more precise info at the track. But to give you an idea of what’s goin on, here's what he said...

Friday
Don Jackson should be getting there around mid afternoon (1:30pm -ish)
We’ll be getting possession of the 50/mini track at 5pm for practice
5:30pm they’ll start cookin food
7pm should we should be starting to race


Saturday
We get the VET Track at 8am for practice
8:30-9am –ish we’ll be having the Team Races
& so-on & so forth for the individual class races


The track will obviously be open to the public during the day friday, so show up whenever you feel. i think some people are already there as well.

you can ride it all day today as well. just not with mtb crowd only
plus we went with the vet track for a couple of reasons, to be a lot easier on riders who haven't rode in a long time or never have ridden, and the vet track is much easier to spectate then the big track at 395

well... we'll see what acutally happens.... i don't think anything's really set in stone... but if you get a chance to practice today, that might be a good idea! ;)

i don't know who all the riders were but some fun stuff for me was

Sanjay and crew trying to figure out how to get in about 1:00 am driving back and forth outside the gate.
team race last lap as always, watching 2 adults on a dirtbike try to go fast is always good for a laugh.

we realized this year lots of people had no clue about the race and are going to work on getting the word out much sooner next year.

good times indeed! funny seeing you run out into the darkness w/ a 10' 4x4 torch at 1am too! haha

MX and DH have to be the two most fun things on Earth. They go together pretty well too and allow you to progress faster in both sports at the same time. Most of my dirtbiking friends were surprised to see me hitting 50 foot tabletops on a 450 after only riding dirtbikes a total of 3 weeks or so. I'll definately have to see if I can make next year's race. Too bad it's not at Lake Elsinore MX, that has to be the most fun place I've ever ridden. Haha and nice pic of sanjay on that moped lookin thing! classic...
