So, myself and a couple buddies want to do some riding this summer, what with Canada being somewhat chilly and all in winter. We don't want to spend a fortune, just go somewhere nice and warm, preferrably shuttled.

Any advice?

Perhaps you missed the part that said "We don't want to spend a fortune" :)

I can't imagine chile would be cheap is it? Would be a hell of an experience.

Thought about Bootleg, but I can't see it as being that "epic" experience we are after. Its a bunch of rocks next to the cesspool of the world. :)

Does arizona have shuttled hills?

We were thinking Jamaica too.

from what ive heard from other ppl in similar situations to yours, it could be really worthwhile looking into, while the air ticket might be spendier than flying to the states, or jamaica, im sure youll start saving the moment you put your foot outside the airport. hear with the fluidride crew, they stayed here for a couple weeks last summer and last i heard was that they were coming back this summer (our summer, that is) im sure arrangements could be made for shuttles and stay for very cheap.
im assuming i dont have to mention how much mountains there are here......

Shuttle? Your're thinking DH bikes? Personally I would only consider that epic if you were in BC, Italy, Switzerland or somewhere that would offer an all day decent that would merit a DH bike. And that won't fit your budget. If your thinking trail bikes, all mountain kinda thing then, Moab is your best bang for the buck. Just gotta catch it in the shoulder of our winter season. Other than that you need to hit Mexico, Arizona like you said. There is great riding in Arizona, I would do an online search or talk to bike shops down there. Maybe MTBR in the Arizona thread.

I would realy like to visit Chile about this sort of time next year.
How much money do you think, accomodation, shuttling every other day... for say a month would cost?

When I looked in Feb last winter, a ticket was about $900-1000cnd including taxes I believe. That's not much more than going from Toronto to LAX/YVR.

Cuba? seriously, common Toronto-Havana flights and loads of mtns in eastern Cuba.
Panama: volcano with riding on it.
Mexico city: has a scene, and volcanos
Bolivia: two FR/DH outfitters and great epic tracks
Chile: fantastic 1-2 hr full-on DH shuttled tracks in Santiago
Peru: even longer descents outside Lima
SW US
SoCal?? Dunno, pretty exotic for me.

I've only ridden in Bolivia and Chile but have heard about the others.

well that would totally depend on if you are alone or in group, this time of year there is lots of racing going on if thats what you want most, the best way would probaby be to rent a minivan (school stops in december so lots of those available) or a pickup truck you could probably get for say 500usd the month and travel a bit around stay at cheap places (say 10usd). lemme know whatever you might be wondering about.

hey stiffro!
cuba is an interesting idea, i was thinking about going there to check it out in its current state.
i was in mexico last year, very nice ppl but kinda few riders compared to how big the city is and to whats going on here now (its literally exploded since you left) and if the course they used for the panams is anything to judge by, then better to visit other places of the country for dh.
peru: OMG, riding in cuzco, just wow. rainy like southern chile is and altitude can be a bit troublesome adjusting to though, but the place and the sheer amount of dh-bike worthy trails, wow.
chile: we gots riding on active volcanoes too (a crapload of them, actually), you should remember! the cool thing about chile is that you have so many places to ride in the santiago area, meaning you dont necessarily have to pay tourist price for anything, and you have bikeparts and mechanics handy, plus the beach is right by.
bolivia: i have got to pay the guys at gravitybolivia a visit, that should about cover it!

@stiff, the back side of caleu is now being regularly shuttled, terrain and vegetation is like in la campana!
