26er or 29er? What kind of riding do you do? How much do you want to spend?
26. Every 29'er I've been on a ride with around here tacoed a wheel to one degree or another.
This bike will be for aggressive XC to XC. Price is not a major consideration.

I know a guy who owns a Rock Shox Revelation and loves it. He does more of the aggressive trail riding, and he's had no problems at all. I however would lean towards Manitou R7 ,or Nixon.
the bike maker is recommending a Pace RC39.

I really don't know much about Pace forks, but I have had good luck with RockShox and Zocchi's -- what about a Reba or a Pike? I've heard good things about both.

to answer your question, I loved my Reba on my 29'er Paragon. I think the thing was super plush, and very smooth! In my opinion one of the nicest forks RS has ever made. I wouldn't hesitate to use one on either a 26 or 29'er.
I ride a Fox normally, and depending on the bike that might do well for you!
if you want to go rigid, you have several options with cromo, and a couple with carbon forks, (which are nice because they do give a little kinda like "mock suspension") Both the cromo and the carbon forks will make the front end of the bike feel like it will float away compared to the same bike with a susp. fork on it!
good luck, and scour ebay you never know what you may find!
