Welcome to the rest of the world pretty much.
People in the US feel superior to the rest of the world, but apparently they cannot take responsibility for their own actions.

Not to start a PD argument here, but our liability laws help to prevent all sorts of bad things, like exploitation of workers, toxic dumping, etc; which all occur in the 3rd World.
The flip side, of course, is idiot Americans suing because mommy didn't tie their shoe laces correctly, and that we can't have a cool urban race here in America...

Whoa.
Negative on starting a PD. I don't remember saying anything about not needing liability laws...
I think that is why I gave an example of idiot Americans suing because mommy didn't tie their shoe laces correctly... Not all the other legitimate examples that you expressed above.
Aha, so yeah. There are rumors that the finish line will be at the Papas 'n Beer in downtown Ensenada.

Alf, that looks to be a HOT race course! I'm down to go, I can't wait! It's right before the Fontana Annual race, so it'd be a great warm-up, if I don't crash! lol I need to learn to be a little less aggressive and I might actually get to win a race. haha

It takes about an hour to get to Ensenada from San Diego, depending on traffic and such.
Try contacting Manny V. for caravan and lodging arrangements, hopefully he will post more info here as well.

Manny you can count me in for the caravan! I think Andy will be down for it also, so we might take my car down there. But my car is lowered, so we'll have to see.
I'll be manning the first Caravan down to Ensenada on Friday November 10th. We're going to meet in San Diego at 10am and depart at 10:30am.
Location: Burger King off 'E' Street in Chula Vista. If you're coming from the north, exit 'E' Street and go right. BK is on your immediate right.
Time: 10am
There is an Mexico Insurance facility right next door to the BK if you want it. Try the internet from some pricing.
Please email me with any questions.

Why is the train leaving two days early. Is there going to be practice the day prior to the race or is it just for the party.
Do you have a practice schedule and possible race obsticles (besides the potholes)? How long is the course?

I hope Manny made a mistake and is really leaving Sat. I'm thinking he is going down early to surf though.
Alex966
10-24-2006, 04:50 PM
That sounds feasible. But how many people would be going surfing with him? It wouldn't be much of a caravan if it's like him and one or two other cars. Most people will probably be leaving with us on Sat. morning.
What time do you think would be a good time to meet up on sat? like 8am? earlier? later?

Keep your bikes close, dont want to see a "stolen bike in mexico" thread.

Carry a small Master lock in your pocket and lock it through your rear brake rotor (through a hole that passes through the caliper) if you have to park for bike for even a minute. Keeps theives from riding your bike away - they can drag it but at least they can't pedal away while you try to chase on foot.
Obviously locking with a heavy cable is better, but locking the rotor is still better than nothing when you can't carry a cable.

Regarding this isssue... if you do exactly what you do in America and keep your bike in you sights at all times, you're good. There's bike theives all over the world. If you get drunk and leave your bike anywhere, well someone might take it. That's usually called a tourist tax! The only person to blame is you... not Mexico! The best part about the DH crew down there is that they all have our backs. They take care of us. Plus, if you're not on your bike, your bike will be in the hotel room. Simple as that.
Common sense my friends.
The only real issues to consider while in Mexico with fellow American riders are simple:
-Don't pee in public!
-Don't break anything that isn't yours!
-Don't drink and drive.
-And remember the same laws apply in Mexico.
Common sense.
If you don't go to this Urban Race you'll regret it. It's close to home. The food is awesome. It's going to be something worth watching and racing! Good times for sure!
:happydance:
PS: Email me at ffatbiz@aol.com if you're planning on staying with us. I only have 5 rooms reserved. That's 10 people. So far three rooms are taken! Talk to me!

I'm thinking my group will need at least 3 rooms. Can we reserve the whole hotel?
Did one of the Ensenada DH races earlier this year and had a great time. Never once did I feel unsafe. Wish I could make this one. Sounds like it'll be a blast. Urban racing, tacos and cerveza. What more could you ask for?

Is this race endorsed by the UCI?
Heard Brian Lopes and Minaar might show up...
Is there only one hotel people can stay at?

WOO-HOO!! I'm coming for real now. Sent Manny an email.
DHS is coming too, and getting a ride with me.
So, how is the room situation? Hopefully we can find another person or 2 people who need a room (my husband and I have discussed this before... somehow, my going to a race and rooming with 3 guys is much better than my rooming with only one).
See you guys on Sat morning!

I asked Manny the same thing...Manny said that Andre said that one of his friends, "BooKoo" was going.
Sanj, I asked Manny to get in contact with you guys, he needs some details. Try to contact him via Email, if you need his # call me.
Sunny, GREAT!! Is there any chance that you might have room for an extra person?

In my vehicle/on the rack, I have two people and one bike (possibly two bikes).
I have room for:
two more people
or
one more person and one more bike
Let me know what you need. :-)
PS. Where is this Mexican Insurance place? Also, meeting point: we are talking about the BK by Donnie's aren't we?

Yes, the BK right off the freeway. As for the insurance, I would recommend getting it on Friday. I'm not sure what time the insurance place opens.

There are plenty of hotels in Ensenada. But all the DH riders that I know are poor bastards or bastardettes, like me. So our friend Ruben from Ensenada is helping us out with his uncle's hotel. $40 a night for a room for four people is right down our alley.
Alright, check it: Here's the updated roommate for Saturday night. I'm leaving tomorrow to spend some QT with the lady. I'm going to hand this list over to Ruben's uncle. If you need to get a hold of me, call me up: 619-788-2456. I'm leaving tomorrow midday or so.

Talk to me...
I think the hotel only have 12 rooms. If so, we're going to have to bunk up rooms. I know Griz and Dre can be seperated... hahaha, so that's fine. Not to worry, we'll make it happen.
One last note: I have a full keg of Stone Arrogant Bastard. If you're down to tap into that on Saturday evening, donations of $5 will be happily excepted. Nothing like an inexpensive pre-party.

That was a blast... anyone know the website that has the final times? Not that I was that fast... too much beer on Saturday.
It was great meeting everyone and putting faces to ... well avatars.
And my camera has been with me on afew too many rides/crashes - so most of my pictures are blury... but my buddy took a few good ones (sunny - great shots of you on the steps). Anyone else got good ones?

Props to everyone that came out to race, party or just hang. Yeah, the border wait probably sucked ass but was there anything else? Doubt it. Good times for sure!
Sorry for the personal pix in my photo gallery... didn't want to take the time to edit. More video clips uploading each day 'til I'm out of footage.

Epic shots guys. Hopefully everyone had a blast, I know I did. Thanks to everyone that went down.
I talked to the event organizers and they were extremely stoked on the turn out as well. Full results are to be posted tomorrow on the "NARO DESIGNS" website linked above.
Keep checking FFATbiz.com for video updates that you will not want to miss, and hopefully MTBphoto.com will post some pics soon.

Yeah, I took a lot of pictures (probably too many) at the race that I still need to go through. I definitely want the racers to see whatever pictures I have of them, so I will try to get them up as soon as possible.
Anyway, I hope to get them up by the end of the week.
