UNITED NATIONS (AP) - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez took his verbal battle with the United States to the floor of the U.N. General Assembly on Wednesday, calling President Bush "the devil."

"The devil came here yesterday," Chavez said. "He came here talking as if he were the owner of the world."

Funny how politicians are only now coming to realize what the rest of the world already knows- that they are blights upon humanity- even though they fail to see it in themselves.

"You're an evil-doer!"
"You're a brutal dictator!"
"You're a terrorist!"
"You're the Devil!"

The crux of the problem is that they're all correct.

VERRRRY funny. My clarity while posting has, but for a few exceptions over the years, been beyond reproach. Now when I'm out riding...or fishing...or camping...or tailgating...etc., all bets are off.

Bush is going to end up with the same rap as Napoleon. Brought liberty to millions, but will be remembered as a dictator.

 It seems Bush has been taking liberties from millions, right here in the good ol' USA.
Many, many thousands have suffered the ultimate loss of liberty, their lives, as a result of his lies.

Liberty (http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/liberty):
Main Entry: lib·er·ty
Pronunciation: 'li-b&r-tE
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural -ties
Etymology: Middle English, from Anglo-French liberté, from Latin libertat-, libertas, from liber free -- more at LIBERAL
1 : the quality or state of being free: a : the power to do as one pleases b : freedom from physical restraint c : freedom from arbitrary or despotic control d : the positive enjoyment of various social, political, or economic rights and privileges e : the power of choice

BurleyShirley: Can you provide any example of Bush bringing liberty to anyone, anywhere (besides himself)?

Hey, as I reread my post, I noticed that definition 1b of liberty is "freedom from physical restraint" and since killing someone does indeed free them from the physical restraints of their mortal bodies, I have been forced to reconsider my position.

Bush is one damn good motherfunking liberator! :banghead:

Anybody read the whole speech? I found it to be a collision of correct and terrifying.

He describes the whole developing world coming together to **** us, which I rate as a very real possibility. He also wants to revamp and strengthen the UN, giving least developed/developing countries a bigger voice on the security council.

This is the future conservatives. You want to avoid the "one world government hostile to the US" scenario, you had better start cutting deals now. Things like farm subsidies, tariffs, barriers to peaceful immigration, and wars against piss ant countries have got to go.

Correct me if I'm wrong or if you can show better, but as far as I can see only 1 American news outlet is reporting that the Chavez speech drew an extended standing ovation in their factual news coverage..

Indicating strong support, after his speech, UN members gave Chavez a standing ovation and rousing applause for several minutes.

Nice media you got there.

I read the speech in its entirety and I can't say that I was particularly impressed, though I will ascribe some portion of its mediocrity to translation losses. There were certain points of truth within it, but overall, it sounded a bit too much like a rhetorically melodramatic pep rally. Yes, Bush could be more a more modest, inclusive and accommodating "Leader of the Free World" in the arena of international diplomacy...but he's too unpolished to be the Devil. Yes, some of our economic policies are still a bit too reminiscent of the imperial model from which they were initially hatched...but greed infests decision-makers in ALL nations, so U.S. Gov't. culpability is remarkable only in scale. Yes, our politicians and power-brokers are control-freaks who seek to do all they can to prevent the flow of largesse from being interrupted...but France, China, Russia, etc. are similarly guilty and pointing us out as the yellow jersey does little to conceal their own aspirations for it. Yes, our leaders seek to cultivate or proselytize our particular brand of democracy throughout the world whenever the opportunity arises...but what government yet hasn't and what better model exists to clone from? Yes, some of Bush's(handlers') word-choice in his speeches appeal to the frightened or somewhat paranoid elements in our society...but that is simply linguistic "dancing with he who brought you to the ball". I could go on and on, but overall, the speech sounded like one better suited for an annual IWW coffee-shop meeting or Noam Chomsky book-signing than for world leaders and delegates at the U.N.

my friend told me his theory on chavez being so outspoken against bush today and i think it sounds quite plausible. leadership is always changing in south american countries because of political revolutions or the leader dies somehow(he said plane crashes were quite common), i wouldn't be all too surprised if the cia had a hand in some of these. but with chavez causing such a controversy and getting so much attention from the media, it's not like he can just be silenced without people asking questions. i believe he said something along the lines of, "if i am killed, you will know who did it," in one of his speeches. basically what he said was, "i'm onto you american f***ers." try and discredit this as much as you want, but i think it makes sense.
