Hmm, no actually. Seems to me it's OK for the far right to preach hate in order to mobilise a huge republican voting block, but if one church whose sheep are likely to vote Democrat does it...
I wanna see this happen to the LDS Church...

I don't think churches should be tax exempt at all, but it seems like this is an attempt at going after a liberal church where the parishoners are most likely democrats. Conservative churches preach against abortion, other churches have probably preached about how the war is justified and for support of Israel, and I've even heard of reports where churches did pretty much endorse Bush. They get away with it scot free?

I don't understand tax exempt. You don't pay taxes if you don't make money, right? Or am I misunderstanding "non-profit".

That makes me happy in a cynical way. When Ted Haggard gets looked into at the same time, then I'll think it's something other than a political ploy.

So you don't think that ever happened at a church that Clinton, Gore, Sharpton, or Jesse Jackson had visited when they were running?
It's nothing new.

Not probably. Definitely. I went to one once to humor some family. The minister may have been retarded. The only reason I didn't make a scene is because I was higher than a kite on Vicodin at the time, so it was rather amusing. (They were for pain purposes...but I have to admit I may have doubled the dose that Sunday morning...)

Of course not, but it's interesting that the only reports of any type of crackdown are on liberal churches.

Churches don't have to be officially non-profit. Look at the LDS.

Anyone remember that Time magazine article that came out in '97 entitled "Mormon, Inc."?
Scary schit. I wonder what their total assets are? Probably over $10 billion...They shouldn't be tax exempt, but they are.
And yes, I <3 mormon pussy.
