I just picked up a nice set of older XT cranks for a SS conversion project. Obviously I only want to run one ring up front. Does anybody sell short chain-ring bolts? On my last set up I cut up an old chain-ring and used the pieces as spacers for the standard chain-ring bolts but this was kind of inelegant and ugly. I'd like to try something a little better.
Thanks.

Have you tried your local shop?

You can get 3/8 inner diameter bronze thrust bearings (washers basically) from the hardware store that fit perfect.

I might try that. I was looking a CR bolts online and they are like $10 a set? WTF?
I imagine these little bearings of which you speak are about $0.25 each?

They are 50¢ each at my local hardware store. They are the same thickness as the chainring. The bronze won't rust and it looks pretty good.
