I use mostly my FS but for smaller, local Freeride stuff (and dirtjumps) i'll use my hardtail because it's easier to pedal around town.

In hindsight I should have gone for a free ride hardtail. The type of riding I ended up doing is better suited for a hardtail, and for the money I spent I could have gotten a nice hardtail instead of a mediochre FS.

Dan,
You don't want to buy a pratically brand new Planet X New Jack Flash frame for those parts do ya? ;)
Back on topic, For me and what I do/want to do, a hardtail works better. That being said, there are definitely trails and situations where a squish deal would make the difference between making it and eating it.

I currently use a FS, but I just built up a HT so I will be trying that out too!

I use both, smaller stunts I'll ride on my xc hardtale. For the big stuff I have a fully.
I started free riding on a hardtale thou, it's a good place to start, helps you learn to be smooth.

I just recently bought an older Cove Stiffee FR. It's got a Marzocchi Z1 fork, which is nice. It seems to be the perfect bike for the kind of riding I do. (nothing too big)

Another thing to consider if you're planning to fall and crash alot is, there is way less stuff to break on a ht.

Hardtail(s) for me... XC, FR, DH - it's all fun on hardtail.
It's a personal preference thing, I just like the hardtails for cornering and feeling what is going on... however as I get older - the FS is looking better and better.

I have a hardtail. It is very useful for the majority of the trails around here. Nothing too big or steep. It's a great all around bike. There are times when I would really like to have a big travel bike but I think it would collect dust most of the time. Now a Preston FR on the other hand, that would rock.
