Hey guys, I just got my new bike. Its an 06 SPecialized SX Trail I. This bike is honestly the best riding MTB I've ever been on. It feels kinda like a BMX bike, which I like and has super short chainstays so it manuals great. I actually even like the fork, although it only has air adjusted preload and internal rebound adjustments. The only thing I'm gonna have to change on it is the grips, haha. It has these weird hard Specialized grips. The Juicy 5 brakes are kinda funky, and squishy. But I'll see how I like them once they break in and everything. Well, here's some pics!

Nice. I'm jealous, and I dont really even like full suspension bikes that much.

hot bike, I'm in love with my sx also.
Just a suggestion, you should put some spacers on you chain guide the back plate is to far from the bash. The chain can fall off like that, it should be tighter.

Here is a pic of my SX (old pic, misisng upgrades, thomson stem/post, diablost bar/headset..few other random things)

Anybody else that has this bike or this fork at least. How much air, if any are you running for preload? I took it out mostly, but then put back in just 10 or so pumps. When I played with it and had 35psi, it was literally as solid as a rigid fork. I think I may need some more once I start hitting some bigger stuff to avoid blowing through all the travel too quick.

they don't need much air to get really stiff. I don't know what I have in mine but it's not very much.

I don't know about that particular fork but some of the earlier forks with air preload actually worked best with negative pressure for lighter riders. You'd have to compress the fork then release the pressure through the valve before decompressing the fork. This method reduced the harshness over chatter type bumps but isn't really ideal for jumping.

I see what you mean about having negative preload. I'm actually getting close to bottoming it out so I think I may put a bit more air in it. Yea, I just snapped the pics at home so you'll have to excuse any weird stuff in the background, haha. And I think I am gonna head down to Snowshoe at the end of sept or early oct. I want to ride once at Wisp to try and get everything dialed before then though.

I don't know about that particular fork but some of the earlier forks with air preload actually worked best with negative pressure for lighter riders.

I run my 66VF with negative pressure and I'm 180lb.
My fork has around 30% sag and it doesn't bottom that often.
I've also changed the stock 7.5WT with 5WT oil and raised the oil level.

My 66VF was topping out and with the negative air pressure 'trick' it's solved.
The 5WT also decreased the spiking problem.

I really like my stock SX trail, the only things that I've replaced are :
Rotors -> 8" Hayes rotors
Headset -> FSA Pig DH Pro
Grips -> Odi Lock-ons
Seat -> SDG Bel air
Tires-Tubes -> 2.35 Single Ply Maxxis-Kenda and light XC tubes
