Hey, I just got a bike from a freind of a freind but the knob on the 888 compression side wont move at all. Its really stuck hard, I've tried turning it pretty hard (but not stupid hard). The compression dampening seems to be very light, if any but I've never rode a 888 but it seems much less than my Z1 (non adjustable). I've already checked to make sure that the little set screw on the top cap that controls the 'clicks' and its not overtightened. Any ideas whats going on? I havent taken the forks apart yet, but I'm pretty handy with a wrench. I'm just praying the cartrage isn't shot.

Thanks!

Take it apart. The 05 is easy.

Just undo both top caps, push them down enough so you can try work it free from there. There's a little red nut under the top part of the rod that you can hold to undo the rest of the top cap from the cartridge. Look on www.go-ride.com for some good pics of getting them apart if that doesn't make sense.

888's have practically no low-speed compression damping either way, the adjuster only controls end-stroke damping and even then it doesn't make a huge difference.

Sounds like the top cap wasn't installed correctly, take it apart and follow the go-rice steps carefully when rebulding it......

If you want low speed compression damping then buy the Low-speed-compression sleeve from go-ride or from your LBS. Without the sleeve the fork has almost zero low speed damping, the compression knob works good for bottom-out resistance though.....

If you get the sleeve start with covering all 5 holes then back it out 1 hole at a time till you find the damping you want........
