Ok, i just bought a 2003 specialized sx...note that it is not the new one so the geometry is all different. Neways, i wanted to know the max travel fork it can have without screwing up the geometry. I would like to have a 150mm travel single crown fork but is this too much for an '03 sx???? Right now, the springs on my nixon comp(i really like the fork) are too soft so i'm thinking of upgrading to an '06 manitou minute 3 or '05 manitou firefly. Let me know what u guys think is best for the frame since one fork has 4 inches and the other has 5. No other fork suggestions other than manitou please. thanks

i have a fox talas rlc 2004 with the push upgrade on mine. Id go with the nixon or get a sherman. Depending on ur riding style. I wouldn't go more than 130mm travell though will make the front to high and muck up the sweet geometry that frame has.

I've got an 05 SX with the stock Talas 130mm fork on it. I'd agree with al-irl and say that 150mm would be too much. A mate of mine had an 03 SX and ran psylos with 120mm of travel, geo was good.

What do you plan on using this bike for?

And

Why no fork suggestions other than manitou?

I rode an SX for a long time, raced DH on it, and 130mm travel was my max even for DH. Go for an adjustable fork so you can dial it to 3-4" for DJ/slalom and 5" for FR/DH/Trails. That's your best bet. A Pike would work well I think.

trail ride, freeride, jumps....and while i like the other forks, i only have a hope adapter for a manitou(i dunt think any the adapter will fit any other forks) since it came with the bike.
Thanks for everyone's input.

You will love the '06 Minute3. My son has the 100mm version on his SX. Big step up from the '05 Minute1 in every respect.

You could run a 130mm fork on the SX without ruining the HA. It's pretty steep with a 100mm fork.
I'm assuming you don't have the SX Trail version?

i've been running a 150mm sherman on my 04 sx (same frame as your 03)
no problems with the set up pretty much use it for the same stuff you posted.

get a pike and put manitou stickers on it! It in my opinion is your best bet for that frame, with it's wide range of adjustability. edit: (thought it was a sponsorship issue, after lookin back it's just a brake adapter, does hope not make adapters for the other forks?)

however from the mantou family on that frame propbably stick the nixon elite looks to be the one using there tpc plus & a wind down feature to 115mm; supposedly keeping the same spring rate. (RTWD)

The SX rides a ton better with the fork low.
I keep my Pike air slammed down to 110, and the bike feels great like this even on rough trails. I will occasionaly raise it up, but the geometry feels the best when its slammed.

What is the difference between the nixon and the minute....manitou says they're both for trail riding so im a lil confused as to the differences???

the minute has 30mm stanchions. its their lighter XC/ALL MTN fork. the Nixon can take a bit more abuse. its got 32mm and its more the fork thats in between the sherman and the minute

get a pike and a post mount adapter, that way you wont have to worry about the correct travel
