So I have a friend going to Austria to spend a year as a freelance journalist, and she needs a killer video editing compy. I'm fairly knowledgeable when it comes to tech stuff, but I know relatively little when it comes to video editing, so I'm not sure exactly what she'll need. Lots of storage (dual RAID 250gb?), processing power, plenty of RAM...what about a capture board? Will an All-In-Wonder do that? SPEC IT!

Also, if you've got a complete machine to suggest, it would be awesome...I'm sort of begrudgingly building this beastie.

Uhh, not sure on this, but I think some of the newer ATi cards can do the video processing instead of the processor.

go to www.notebookforums.com and try asking there

Freelance journalist? I'd venture to suggest mirrored 320gb drives, or even 400gb drives. If she ever does any HD video, even that will get eaten up very quickly.

Gotta have a budget in order to help you, though.

Is this a desktop type machine?
