I am debating selling my 2005 Demo 9Pro frame, 888 Works fork, King Headset and shock (Swinger 4 way with 550# ti coil and 400# Ti coil).

She's got the usual downhill marks, but no dents or bends. Any idea what the value might be?

The spring or the frame?

If I did the frame/shock/springs, I need to clear $1500.
If I did the frame/shock/springs/headset and fork, more like $2350.

Not sure if that's what its worth in the grand sense of market driven economics, but that's the "buy out" limit for me to be able to afford another frame/shock with one of my sponsors helping me out.

So if anyone needs a Demo 9 with 1/2 season on it, with the standard bumps and bruises of riding, that's what I need to get.

The used bike market sucks, people are selling their complete Demo's for around that.

$850 more for the fork and head set? Good luck with that.

$2350 for frame and fork?

There's a complete Demo 9 in the classifieds right now listed as excellent condition ("basically new") for $2500, and listing prices almost always have a little wiggle room. And that bike is claimed to be in better condition than yours.

I know you've got a so-called "Works" fork but that really means zilch for resale value. Tuning packages or little upgrades like that don't add a nickel to resale value.

I think you're aiming a little high. Just MHO.

Screw it, I'd go all in for that price.
2350 gets you the complete bike.

Though if the truth be told, I am not in a big hurry to sell it now. I went back to the drawing board to retune the bike, and with the addition of a properly working headset, the bike is truly working now.

bikes lose their original value before you even finish building them.
you might as well figure out what you have invested and cut that in half.

and consider yourself lucky to get that much out of it.

a local non-d.h. rider recently built up a highly sought after d.h.bike.
then decided he was still way out of his league.
he tried selling it for what he paid for it and was laughed right out of the buy/sell forum.

the price has since plummeted.
and it's still not going to easily sell at the new price.

Yea, I think I am just going to hold onto the Demo. Its finally tuned right. Maybe at the end of the season I'll strip it and sell it locally, or build it up for my brother-in-law.

on average i get about three years of hard riding from each d.h. bike.

i ride the livin daylights out of them. but keep them in good running order.
i figure after that length of time, i've gotten my $$$'s worth out of them.

i let everyone else jump on the "gotta have the latest new whatever
bandwagon"
i have yet to see where the average rider benefits all that much from that mindset.

the only guys i ever see profit from used stuff. are the shop guys who get e.p. deals on bikes.
