I just bought a large 2001 BigHit and am curious if it can be set up with a 26" rear wheel? I havn't looked at it too close yet. (Just got it yesterday) Is this recommended or should I leave it a 24"?

You can set it up with a 26 in the back, but you need different linkage plates to do it. BETD used to make them, not sure if they are still available. Just keep it 24.

Yeah BETD made a 26" conversion, my friend runs one on his and loves it. it ran about $200 and you got the linkage and new bearings. what a difference it has made on his bike. check them out, not sure if they still make it, but i wouldnt be suprised. they are out of the UK so shipping takes a while.

I had the BETD 26" seatstay, it's good for full on DH racing in rough sections at high speeds with wide open sections.
But for tight corners, steep technical sections, stunts and jumps and general playtime, keep the 24".

After almost 1 year, I switched back to the 24" wheel, because it corners better, is more flickable (lower BB and shorter wheelbase) and it manuals and bunnyhops better.
I really liked the 24" Maxxis highroller 2.5 and the 24" Kenda Nevegal 2.5.

I have the 26" kit on a 04' Bighit Expert, the bike is a whole different animal with this kit. The bike is more stable and handles like a dream. The rolling speed of the bike over rough stuff is night and day difference over a 24" bike. My reccomendation is to get the kit! Not to mention having a bolt through 12mm rear axle makes the bike more stable.

let see some pics?.. Some people hate on the 24 in the back..but I love my bike choppered out. It seems to drop off of ladders and rocks so nicely and goes pretty damn good through the corners.

Here is a pic of the rear. the kit also is alot stronger than the stock.
I rode the 24" alot and liked it too, I do the drops, skinnies, ladders where you would think the 24" rear would shine, but I still do the same stuff with the 26" and it feels better.......but after the 26" kit you see the light!;)

By the way the kit runs about $300 with out shipping or the anodizing or bearings.

if i remember correctly the 01 has a normal rear not the ARC rear end. if so the rear off the older fsr dh will fit and you can use a 26" rear.

One word of advice when ordering, have him take your money up front. It's my beleif that he tells you the stays are BO because the current exchange rate isn't favorable and he makes buyers wait until it goes up.

My reasoning for this, is the fact I tried to purchase these for my 03. When I called the cost was about $300usd (less ship), with bearings & Raw finish. However they were BO. When they finally came in the cost was almost $600. I said screw it in the end, figuring for the price I could save another few $$$ and buy a new frame .
