how is the Rocky Mountain Switch for FR/DH. Also is it good for XC and is it hard to pedal uphill?
thanks

It's a great all around, do-it-all bike.
Definitely pedalable, although it's not the lightest bike around.
Also dh worty. It may not be the fastest bike around, but I've seen plenty of people sporting them at Keystone/Vail.

Linkage is a mess, but works well.
Look into the Nomad as well. Both great do it all bikes.... The nomad does better on the uphill.

The lower link loves to come loose until you lock tight the bolts.
Other then that I like my Switch, I need a better fork for mine though.

The Switch is an amazing bike! Well worth the money. Rocky Mountain makes amazing bikes, and I am personally a big fan of the linkage. It is definantly a FR worthy bike, Its Vanderham's bike! As for DH, Its also plenty capable to race. The geo is not ideal as a DH race bike, but it will get the job done, and it'll be fun while you are at it!
peachy

u meant Loctite. imo most suspension bolts need threadlockers anyways.

Actually I mean thread lock, since Loctite is a brand, I say skid steer not bobcat also.
Sorry just cynical.

I have the 05 Switch S1 and I have had some problems with it. The drop off isnt too good. The linkage comes loose so I had to get a new set of hardware. The derraileur hangers arent very strong either. I would go for the 06 7 inch version. Other than that they are nice bikes to have

haha of course it costs a lot with a build like that. but why the hookworms? it's a good all around bike, but i don't think i shines in skateparks... haha.

I saw the new Switch at Crankworx and talked with the HEIC and it appears that they fixed this. I used lock tight on my 05 and had no problems after that. I ride a Switch with a Boxxer Team up front and a Fox Van on the back. This gives me 8" and 6" respectively. Just got back from beating it up in Whistler and that bike continues to give back. Love it. Even with 8" up front I still trial ride this bike. The Boxxer is that light.

Urban distruction, I run Holy rollers for dirt just haven't had time lately to go dirt riding, I am thinking of switching tire back to dirt only then getting a street only bike like a Chronus or a Yeti DJ maybe.
And hell me Dirt bike runs slicks.

I know this is an old thread but I decided I would just ask my question on this thread instead of starting a new one.
My question is that if I change the shock stroke on my 2005 switch can I get more travel out of it and maybe lower the bb?
The warranty is a full six months, yeah great, six months. they break at the shock mount. Amazing bikes. Get one.

How many can you name that you've seen broken? also my warranty is a year long. i used my switch for a full season at diablo in 06 (every weekend and 2+ weekdays a week in the summer on top of the weekends) so i used my bike hard and ive had absolutely NO problems nor have i heard of anyone having problems with rocky mtns.

I love my Switch. It's an '05 SL but it's got better suspension components than a stock SL. Buy mine if you are looking for one. I am selling mine only because I want something around 30lbs, maybe something more like an All-Mountain instead of a full on freeride bike. The bike is now at around 36lbs. It's defintley capable of being pedaled up, but right now my fitness level doesn't allow me to. I haven't had any problems with the linkage. I did have to replace the bushings for the shock though. Here's a link to the specs... (http://www.johnnyru.com/for%20sale/FOR%20SALE%20-%20RM%20Switch.pdf) this bike can almost handle it all. the frame is one of the highest quality frames I have ever seen and the powdercoat is super durable. here's a picture of the bike...

And here's a pic of me riding it at Yokun Ridge in Lenox, MA.

Man this bike is so plush on the landings too. Buy it before I change my mind and keep it.;)

Oh $1500 is the asking price and if you're serious, I'd let you ride it too.
Pedals are not included and I have the original rubber which are the 26 x 2.5 Maxxis Minion's F & R, practically brand new.

I only ride a switch . XC, DH, Freeride. I have it built up pretty heavy. My fork is the Boxxer Team so it's 8" up front and 6" in the back. If I were to race DH I would want a DH bike, but my bike rips and takes hits. I had a problem with the linkage, in fact, it lead to a cracked frame. Rocky replaced the frame within 3 weeks and having learned that the bolts on the linkage like to work themselves out, I used "thread lock." No more problems.
One thought: I don't like how they come built up in the store.

mines the sl with the ems build like yours i believe. i upgraded mine with a lot of components more race worthy as well so i can handle the races until i get my full on race bike this june. question for seapig: whats your bb height with that fork on there. im thinkin of getting a new fork but i dont wanna ruin my geo. my bb is actually only about 14.25 .. maybe a little less depending on tires!

maybe a fox 40 so i can adjust it down to keep my geo spot on?
