Are flat crowns better than the angled ones that usually come stock on most dc forks? I don't really know the difference and since I'm lookin for a new, and my first, dc fork I was hoping someone could shed some light on it.

The difference isn't that one is "better". The difference is in the headtube length. Your stanctions on the fork are a fixed length, right? So if you have a super long head tube, you need the "angled" crowns (known as a drop crown) so that the crown will fit over the top of your head tube and will still reach the stanction.
The flat crowns are for shorter head tubes, where the stanctions already reach the height of the top of the head tube.
Sometimes, even if the flat crown technically fits, the drop crown will allow you more adjustability, too.
Check on the fork manufacturer's website for recommendations on which crown you will need - it should be listed as bikes with a headtube of this length will need this crown.
