I'm buying the Bombshell Fat Boy Rim from Cambria. They sell the
Machined - $39 and non Machined - $44. I forgot which one you want...getting it built up with a LX silent clutch hub for trials.

One ride in muddy conditions and the machining is gone. Kind of a waste of money I think.

then u will have a way better braking surface. with no lumps at the join. unless u running disk, the go cheaper.

That's good advice. Rim brakes need a machined rim. Disk, don't matter.

Why does a machined brake track give better braking? It is NOT needed. If a rim is built properly there will not be any bump at the joint. One ride in muddy conditions, one ride, and that nice machined surface you paid EXTRA for is gone.

like when u first started biking? with rim brakes it goes thud thud thud on the join if they arnt machined. even on new 100% true wheels. i duno about that 1 muddy ride thing either. its prolly just all the brake scum from your pads. just use a scotch bright pad on your rims. or even jiff (a harsh cleaning abrasive over here).

Machined cud have a softer serface (i.e. oxidezed aluminum is harder) for a while. Softer=more scratchin'=more fricion=more stopin' power.
