So friday night I will be jumping in my buddys land rover and sleeping while he drives us up to to whistler (ahh yah im spoiled i know). Its my friends Bday and he decided what better way to spend it then riding bikes in canadia. I am a Whistler virgin and this week is going to be HELL...
Kinda like the week leading up to your Bday when your dad tells you he got you a stripper cause your turning 16.
So I have seen a few videos or Aline and other trails, But really im going up there blind. I have people to show me around who will be there. And I know im going to come back a changed rider. I am sooo excited. Went to Seatac today to make sure I still knew how to catch some air (i do).
Is anyone going to be up there this coming weekend besides Ash (netguy)??
Is Whistler fully melted-out yet? We're still boarding at Squaw with like a 10' base in spots.

His B-Day and he's driving? Your an asshole. ;)
If your up there for a week, hit Squamish as well. Short trip down the road, local shop for map, scare yourself silly. Hmmm, it's shuttle though. Might have to make friends while your at whistler to grab another rider.

The trail crew has been clearing it (most) all away. There are a few piles of the white stuff as well as some patches here and there. But, aside from some mud, the trails are in great shape.

So far, the rain is holding off. Some showers last night, and then a couple of small sprinkles today. I rode the park yesterday. Aline and DM are still muddy in places, however trails like LowerJoyride, Clownshoes and Detroit RC are mint right now.

Just got back. Its really a great time to be up there. Even though its kinda rainy, its keeping dust off the trails and the cool temps are nice when you've got the full-faced. The snow is pretty much melted on the lower mountain (at least they've done a great job clearing the trails), but the upper mountain probably won't be open for quite a while. Have fun!! I'll be up again in 2 weeks!!

havent ridden since.. and ya.. its painful. I'll take my bike with me to SST if I go this weekend and see how it feels. If I can lift my bike to put it on top of my car, i'll ride.. I'll probably pass on Whistler this weeked, i'd be tempted to ride. Maybe i'll come out and take pics at SST.

Netguy,
Can you give another trail report?
I'm going to be up there Saturday and Sunday. It's supposed to rain a little, which is a bummer cause I've been looking forward to riding the trails with ladders. Seems like they're always closed or super sketchy when I go up there. I guess the rain follows me...
Netguy

It rained fairly hard on Wednesday, a couple of sprinkles on Thursday and it looks like the same for today also. Right now it looks like it wants to rain, so at most there will be couple of showers.
I rode the park yesterday and there are still puddles here and there, however besides that, everything is tacky. I rode both LowerJoyride and Clownshoes yesterday afternoon, and the ladders, were a tad damp, however not to greasy, so it was ok. Even if there is a little rain here and there, I think they will be in good shape for the weekend. Aline and DM are still muddy in places, however besides that, super sticky. Forcast calls for more sun than rain, so I think you will be in good shape.
If it starts bucketing down rain today, I will post.

Wednesday was awesome. great riding in the rain. Today is on and off...heading out for a bit now. I am almost hoping it does rain again haha
The wall has gone!

fair bit of rain this afternoon, lots of slippy roots.

HOLY SH_TCOW wow.... what a blast...
Rode A line a fewtimes today and had a blast even with sketchy landings. (rider error) Went off the GLH drop and had a ton of speed, hit a rock and pinch flatted and ended up running into the aluminum barrier because brakes were not so functional:rofl:
Took a while fixing my flat since some rad ass female who lives up here was sitting on the logs. Just got back from drinks with her and her partner and lemme tell you. Canadian girls that ride downhill, kick ass and take names are good friends to have around.
Plus MoeJoes had a Wet Tshirt contest lastnight... I think the girls were confused because they didnt have shirts on :) :) I love this place.. Well time to go crash my ass out. Its been a long day and damn was it fun....

Whistler's a blast. It's not all that scary. I think the bears 20ft off the trails scared me the most. My bro looked back at me while I was riding past a momma bear and her 2 cubs, he said I was bug eyed and white as a ghost!! LOL. I was pedaling my ass off for sure!
Have fun!

Fortunately some people have the sense to know why Whistler rocks - check out this thread (especially the first post) on the DH forum!

Apparently they have more bears than normal this year. I think we saw at least 8 different bears this past weekend. 2 or 3 were spotted walking across Devil's Club and we saw 2 on Crack Addict. Unfortunately I couldn't get my camera out in time for them. We saw one rider walking his bike past 2 bears at the bottom of Schleyer.
This is from the building at the middle of B-line and Schleyer.

I was talking with one of the people who watch over and care for the bears and they were silly excited about how many bears they had this year; more than any other year if they all (or most) live!
