I have a motivation to come out that way as of late, so I was wondering if there are going to be any races this year for the DH/4x/DS crowd.
Thanks

There is a "downhillish" race that's part of the Nova Classic every March, but sadly there's no real downhill races in the Valley of the Sun. South Mountain in Phoenix would be perfect for a DH event.

I guess I will have to see what can be done in Vegas then

If you're just here to ride, South Mountain will satisfy your need for technical downhill.
An easy section, suitable for hardtails:

C'mon, man. That whole mountain was suitable for hardtails for 10 years before I got my first full suspension bike. Granted, it is pretty fun descending some of that stuff on a big FS bike.
:thumb: for South Mountain.

I need to be able to justify the trip with a race, something tangible. Long story, but that's how it is.
