Its a Specialized Sawpit that I can get a great deal on. Thoughts?

I know someone that has broken them 3 times on the sole. That was the old carbon version of the sole, I don't know if that one is carbon-soled.

Granted he's a big guy but he's pretty easy on stuff for the most part and rode a lot of XC w/ those shoes.

I'd love to hear some more feedback on those, too. And these if anyone has tried them yet:

I'd like to have something in a mid-top style.

they remind me of my old Shimano DX DH clipless shoes...which I still miss to this day...the day they died I shed a tear.

The soles on both of those shoes look like a hiking boot sole.
I would rather have something with a skateshoe like sole especially
with the Mallets. You can ride them like flats if you need to.

Opinions of these would be nice too if anyone has a pair yet.

i have the non-spd version and like them quite a bit. VERY well built. they tend to be sized a lil bit big, so keep that in mind if you're in between sizes.

I found that the 661 shoes worked best with the Mallets...

Maybe if you enjoy wearing New Balance shoes. :D

I just like the looks of either a skate or DH shoe.

I ran those same specialized shoes and mallets all last season and loved them, Im going to use the same setup again this year. The shoes are light for such a DH specific shoe and they're great for hiking. Couldnt be happier. My only complaint is with the cleats. Im sure you've heard it already buy they're made of brass and wear out fairly quickly. I went through two sets in a season, but i wouldnt run anything else. Hope this helps.

I've owned every pair of SixSixOne skate shoes since they hit the market (after my DX's died a painful death)..and haven't looked back since. Reasonably stiff insole to keep you from fatigueing and for good power transfer and a soft sole that stays in touch with the pedal and easy to hike a bike in. Plus the inside is just soft enough without being a "show pillow".

Crank Bros has since speced a different cleat for '06 in a harder compound. Some may know it as the Quattro cleat.

On their website it lists the quattro cleat as a road cleat, is that the right one?

On which topic? cleats or shoes? I think that Crank Bros. new cleat with the harder metal is called their "Premium" cleat. And as far as shoes, I recently picked up a pair of the Plush and I'm loving them. Excellent engagement with the Mallets. Even better than the Launchs that I had previously.
