between a 06 turner dhr or a 06 sc V10, what would you pick? They would be ridden on trails that have fast sections to them, but also technical rocky ones. The bike would also be jumped and droped but not nearly as muched as ridden on local trails and raced. With the V10 i would try and put a cane creek double barrel on as the rear shock, and an avy w/ the new hi/low speed compression adjuster for the dhr. I realize that frame vs. frame comparisons are getting old, and i know that people will probably say go and ride each to determine your choice, but i dont have the luxury of knowing anyone with either of these bikes. Thanks for all the help!

Whats your style of riding? One is more stick and plow (VPP) and the other is more flick and smooth style.

I'd get a horse. Like a pony or a unicorn.

You can ride anything... wink wink nudge nudge....

Honestly, ride both. In SB there have to be plenty of people with both, so try to borrow one for a run. As luelling said, they're both good DH race bikes but both have different riding styles. I have a DHR and it's fast and corners really well and is super nimble and flickable. I've also ridden a V10 and it's more squishy, it sticks to the trail more and is less maneuverable. The V10 is slacker and more stable than the DHR too.

i'm not the most finesse rider in the least. manuverability is key for some local trails. when you say that the V10 is more stable what do you mean, in rocks, in the air, at high speeds?

If you are one of the infamous SB groms, you will still be slow on the next expensive bike you(r parents) buy.

Thats not me. I would actually buy this bike with my own money just like everyother bike and part that i own. I do work, even though it is for my dad at a driving range, but i work for my money and choose what i do with it. And bomberboy, you should go and try to be cool somewhere else because this whole sb stuff is done and over.

I was thinking at high speeds the V10 is more stable because it's so slack, the Turner would probably be better at slow speeds... the DHR also jumps really well which the V10 does not so much.

Yea i'm leaning towards the dhr now, but that db would be sick and it wont fit the dhr. o well. The avy is a sweet rear shock.

I'd take a DHR. The low cornering of it is great. Plowing is something i try not to do although it ends up happening. I find finessing cooler looking and imo faster.

As for my serious answer, get the V10 for SB. The DHR will get tossed around unless you are super smooth to begin with.

yea, this is why i go back and forth. Bomberboy will back me up when i say that the rock gardens on some trails can be ridden over with speed and ease, while others have to be slowly navigated. I have never dh'ed out of sb so maybe this is normal, but how easy is the V10 to navigate? When i say jumping and droping mean more like whistler stuff seeing as how i will be going there this summer and summers to come.

I love my V10. No problems with tossing it around if you want to. Although, I normally just plow straight through any rock gardens.
The V10 jumps well too. I am always confused why people seem to think that they are hard to jump.

isnt it hard to preload on a bike that has 10 inches of travel? As long as the V10 can be nimble enough when you want it to and plow when you want it to the i'm all over it.

I don't think so. However, I ride MX and I am used to preloading. That said, I haven't heard many people that have a lot of actual ride time on a V10 complain about preloading. Every bike requires some riding to learn how to make the bike do what you want it to do. It's a muscle memory thing. After a couple of days you will not even need to think about it.

yea and coupled with a cane creek db the V10 should be awesome.

I say you get a middle-of-the road bike in terms of geo/handling. The DHR is the quickest DH bike you can get and the V10 is a burly mother. What about something like (I know it's old) a Sunday or a Demo? If you haven't made up your mind I would get a bike that can do it all.

what makes a sunday or a demo a "bike that can do it all" compared to a dhr or V10?

Like I said, the DHR and V10 are at opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of handling.
The DHR is super flickable and quick, and the V10 is a super-stable, slow-handling bike.
The Demo or Sunday have more middle-of-road in terms of "feel" and geometry. There are a lot of other frames like this.
The thing about comparing the DHR and V10 is that they are totally different beasts. If you are undecided about what you're looking for, then why not just get something that will work for everything?

i'm still very undecided. I would a love a sunday more than anything, but i cant seem to find or be able to get a factory frame. I have a build for it i just need a frame.

Dude, just buy a Sunday Elite and be done with it. It's cheaper than building a Factory, you won't have to wait a decade, and it's got sick partz.
