I already organized a XC trip for the 1st so I can't back out. Had I known this was going to happen before I would have been in. While I prefer to climb, I also enjoy the company of the RM homies and wanted to meet several of you. A day with the fellow monkies is a day well spent

If Im not mistaken the road to the top is paved all the way. shouldnt be as hard on the bikes as last time. My brand new derailer looks about a year old after it got its ass kicked by your trailer.

mud'n'sweat
03-28-2006, 11:07 AM
The road to the top is smoother than Woody's freshly baby powdered ass.

wood-dog
03-28-2006, 07:35 PM
Yea Ralphie, the road to the top is super smooth so the bikes will not slam into each other like the last time. hahahaha as a matter of fact, when you see how smooth the road is that we will take, you will be asking yourself why in the world we dealt with the flagpole trail at all. Granted, we did not know about the Reddish Knob trail at that time..... but who cares :D

i found someone's vitamin c supplements in my car emergen-c or something. My friends thought i was trying to get high off of it. (i guess they know that you can get a buzz off taking a lot of vitamin c) my friends are crazy. i have no clue what my mom thought...

ARGHHHH!!!!

I was wondering...what's on the 7th? Is "Loggers Alley" open then? I've never ridden that.

03-28-2006, 08:24 PM
I've heard loggers alley is just a fireroad with lots of ruts. But that's just hearsay. I can only imagine if it's really 7 miles long that it'd get old after a while if it's just a fire road. Personally, I'd like to try out wintergreen at least once this summer.......

I'm putting on my flame resistant jacket now.....

BigMike

The 7th is the day my show opens, and my life starts again. It was nice today, I had a break from 7-10. I'm on my way back to the theatre in 20 minutes

And Loggers alley is a fireroad, but its a fun fireroad. It is very long, but it does not get too boring. There are a few peddly parts, and plenty of chances to catch up with faster/slower riders.

And to tell you the truth, I plan on riding WG this summer as well. Don't get me wrong, I love me some Snowshoe, but you can't beat the hour and fifteen minute drive to WG. Day trips are easy up there, not so much at Snowshoe. Let me know when you want to go up there, i'm game.

And before all of you fools post, just remember, all we are here to do is ride our bicycles, and anywhere I can do that, i'm all for!

jaekormtb
03-28-2006, 08:38 PM
I'm in for Reddish Knob.
Loggers' Alley is just a fireroad. When I did it in '98 you got to the bottom and called the shop to get a ride to the top. Do it once so you, too, can sound off with a snore.

Loggers alley is fun, not the greatest but still fun. It is super fast and rocky, rutted. I have done it once or twice a year in the early spring for the last couple years. It is a really good way to knock the cobwebs off of the bike and see what you need to take care of before the season starts.

The biggest bitch about it is getting the shuttle to pick you up. It is the same shuttle they use for the golf people. They will make you wait for the next shuttle if there are alot of golfers waiting to ride the shuttle.

Jesus, when did this turn into a quilting circle!

Kids, we're going to do a lot of rides this summer. My wife is a Navy Doctor, which means once June 12 rolls around I am a new batchelor with a wedding ring.

Wintergreen, Knoxville, camping @ snowshoe, my new secret spot. This is going to be a killer summer, so drop your cocks and grab your socks, its on like Donkey Kong.

See y'all after the Otter is over, and then its pure pain till the wheels blow off.

Looks like we might have a pretty small group. May be 3 of us from richmond. I aslo talked to a guy from south of Lynchburg and he wants to go but his truck crapped out on him. Told him if we had room in the shuttle truck we might could accomidate him. We still doing trail work or just riding?

wood-dog
03-30-2006, 04:00 PM
3 from Richmond and it looks like 4 from c-ville and is the fella from Lynchburg named Steve?

As for trail work, I say we still do some if for no other reason then to provide a safer ride for us on the remaining rides. Once you get there and see how overgrown some of the areas are you will agree with me, not to mention all of the trees that have fallen over and become a pain in the a$$ to stop and lift your bike over every 25 yards.

wood-dog
03-30-2006, 04:04 PM
so who is in from Richmond?
Ralph
Dennis
?
C-villers are
Woody
Corby
Jeff?
Birdman?

If anything differs, post it so we can make needed adjustments

What is the shuttle situation looking like? I am not sure if my buddy from richmond is going or not. But I did meet a kid tonight that does want to go if we have room. The guy from south of lynchburg's name is Darril and he definitely wants to go. It depends on the shuttle situation if these guys can go or not

BIRDMAN111

If you're not going to use them a lot, I'd like to have them back, but if you're going to get good use out of them, you can have them.

03-30-2006, 06:03 PM

Ralphie, are you gonna be feeling up to the ride this weekend in 70 plus degree weather? The high temps and long decents will burn out any remaining illness you still have in your body

That's the idea....I still have a cough, but the doctor cleared me for tomorrow, but she said don't push it too hard....

I told her sin I've had this crap, I have been able to push a damn thing...:(

or,

Since I can't climb because I can't breath, that's all I do is push it...either way, the both seem to stand true.

I haven't been to the gym in 2 weeks...:(

So tomorrow is heat and runs, but damn it, I want the saddle time...

wood-dog
03-31-2006, 11:20 AM
cool, and for the record the only pushing you will be doing is less then 150 feet on a moderate incline and that will be broken up into several parts. You will be fine AND you will have a great time! :thumb:

03-31-2006, 12:32 PM
My buddy from south of us is coming. What is the exit off of 81 that we get off at? What is the best place to meet off of that exit? What time will we be getting there? I am guessing that if we can get out of c-ville by 8 we should be there by 9ish.

After talking to Woody, I figured out you guys did wolf ridge. That trail is fun as hell! I wasn't sure if I should take you guys that way the first time as I knew there was one small climb involved. Didn't realize that diversion we took was cali ridge, no wonder we had a hell of a time getting out.

yeah, it was a bit tough. The fact my shock was a pogo-stick really made it suck...no rebound whatsoever, and as it turns out, the nitrogen somehow discharged...:redhot:  :redhot: :redhot:

Nitrogen discharge is still better than oily discharge though. ;)

When we rode it, I dont remember any other options we had. From what I recall, we took the only trail down from where we started. Oh well.

Ralph has somthing bad to say about his precious new shock?! :D

Seems like you are always blaming equipment. Clipless pedals, different fork, shock............ ever think maybe you just arent cut out for this kind of riding? :D:D

I'm just messin with you man, hope you get your shock all fixed up for next time we can ride!

Nah, I was trying to find a route that would be more DH'er friendly for the guys with the big bikes that don't climb so well. We found what ended up being Cali ridge on the topo map but didn't realize that is what trail it was. We just looked for the first left branch off timber ridge after the rock garden at the top. There were no trail closing signs up there and there was still the mile marker for the FR down that trail. They really should mark that trail as being closed because it is impossible to tell to anyone who is not already aware of the fact. I'm going to get back up there in the next couple months and do all of timber ridge. It's been a loooong time since I have done that trail and from what I remember it was absolutely amazing.

Actually, I solved most of the issues. The rear triangle on my frame is bent, but not bad enough to replace it till next season. However, the shock loosing the nitrogen charge really sucks. Craig at Avy said that it is very unusual.

The clipless after much debate decided to go for it. I used to ride clipless XC, so the only getting used to it is setting the tension on the clipless.

The shock however is a damn mystery since the only way to loose all of the nitrogen is to release it purposely. Weird situation for sure. The upside is is that I can get it charged here at a Motorcycle shop...

Oh well, as the world Turns...:nopity:
