You mean a XC ride on the Catoctin Blue Trail, that runs roughly 25 miles from Gambril to Cunningham Falls...right?? Or do you mean a road ride from the bottom of Hamburg Rd. down Harmony, and then through seanic Meyersville??

Show up for the cleanup....goto savetheshed.......

Could someone PM me directions to the good stuff up there? I found the Hamburg parking area and blue trails, but that's it. I think I remember reading you have to drive past hamburg for the better trails. Any help? How long is the hike/ride back up?

Regarding directions to "trails in the shed" maybe try searching for them on this forum. If they aren't there its because this issue has come up many times before and have been deleted many times before!!! Hellloooo anyone read the thread that was just deleted 2 days ago?

Made it out today. The 66 is sick! The adjustments are crazy.
The last long travel suspension I rode was a Super T with Vanilla RC rear. I'd say the engineering has improved. :)

Bent it on a pretty light fall on big rocks but didn't realize it. Second run I shifted it up and it went in the spokes. snapped near the hanger. It was an x.9 long cage. twang!

OldschoolMTBiker snapped his ASX rear hanger and mangled his drivetrain the first time he rode with us at the Shed. It was a funny turn of events, but long story short after landing a jump smooth the following stuff exploded:

Front mech (into 4 pieces)
Chain
Front mech cable
Rear mech into spokes
Hanger sheared off at the two screws (but not bent, strangely)
Couple broken spokes from the rear mech

On the first run of the day no less. I think he's jinxed. ;)

I can't do Saturday, probably because the bike won't be ready by then.

If the stars line up, it doesn't rain, and my friends leave earlier than anticipated (they have a 7 month old baby being watched by family, so the babysitting timeframe is variable based on their tolerance :) ), I may be up for a ride on Sunday. Definitely can't do Saturday.

install grips
install e13 srs
install 66
change tires
swap seat & post
swap pedals
change rear shock spring
tape up the driveside chainstay

Not sure how far a drive Frederick MD is from Philly. Probably not much more than hour and a half?

RPK and his recumbant is quite a thing to see. Flip whips and sick tire barrel rolls over 50' road gaps. After that he has sex with your sister and spits in your eye, because he's cool like that.

Just looked at Google and from your suburb of Philly to Frederick MD would take close to 3 hours, yikes!

Though I've made it to the Philly airport from my house in one hour flat, and it's another one hour exactly to Frederick from there. So I guess it depends on how fast you drive. Regardless, it's a long way to drive for a bunch of slackers like us. Granted there's plenty of trails and sh*t to ride but still, I'm not that cute.

Oh hell no, I'd DIY all of that, it's a stack of parts but it's all easy stuff. Also gives you an opportunity to get acquainted w/ the bike and make sure everything is tightened up properly (which no matter how much I trust a shop, I still doublecheck after they are done).

The only thing I'd consider having them do is the fork, and only really removing the crown race from the old fork, setting the new star nut, and cutting the steering tube.

At this point I'm willing to do all of that myself too since they didn't have the bike today and they said "maybe tomorrow or Saturday".

You have a good hacksaw, Matt?

Maybe he meant 5 in front / 5 in back = 10" beast? You know how those crazy trail bike riders are. They should just ride rigid SS's and S the F up.

e-posturing - gotta love it.

jonKranked
04-07-2006, 10:57 AM
imo 10" of travel is ridiculous and totally unnecessary unless your name is Josh Bender. My rig is 7.75"/7.75" but then again I do a lot of downhilling, for trails and general freeriding I am looking for a new bike with around 6.5"~7" of travel, single crown fork, blah blah blah. Especially since I'm in the process of getting a race specific DH bike now (which still won't be 10" of travel  )

and don't take this as me trying to knock ss's or rigid. XC is cool too, but just not my cup of tea anymore. For road the only way to go is fixed. :D

And I'm not dropping names, but if you're feeling selfconcious about yourself and think I mean you then you're welcome to think whatever you want. I don't care either way.

erikkellison
04-07-2006, 04:25 PM
Hey Judd,
Do they guys over where you are whine about the sercrecy of trails like they did/do over here? I stopped paying attention to the local boards so I don't hear about it anymore, but it probably continues when new riders find out about new or previously unknown trails. Is there the concern for liability there too like there is here, or is it worse because you're in such close proximity to so many hungry lawyers?
And what is with the brand name dropping on the East Coast?

HBT, and others,

I like to think of our little "banter" in the same terms of two basketball players talking smack to each other on the court. Just part of a little freindly competition. If you're getting all worked up over some trash-talking, may I suggest a nice bubble bath, a glass of wine, and maybe some soothing music?? (Sting works really well)

As for my "Pro Racer X wanna be Travis Pastrana look"...I have turned wrenches in bike shops for over 7 years now, true I have made some industry contacts...I've helped out at DH races. I can also write a good resume. I suggest that you (and anyone else for that matter) do the same. Besides the obvious discounts on really pimp sh#t, you can get an inside view of how this whole cycling thing really works. Hell you might even learn something. The Racers Edge crew is always looking for people to help promote the sport, MORE wants help, and every bike shop I know of is hiring. doing any of all of that would be a great experience. Just a thought...

I ordered a nice new Radio Flyer red lacquored wagon. The other guys I ride with figure if they tow me behind them I'll be more likely to keep up and not get dropped off the back of the pack. Look for a 6'7" asian guy being pulled behind a silver ASX.

Say hello, maybe I'll let you ride shotgun in the front basket, but not behind me because that would just be too Brokeback Mountainbiking.

It's nice out. I'm going to 495. I'll be the one crashing a lot or staring at the jumps nervously. Please don't make fun of me. haha

I wish I could be out crashing a lot and looking timidly at the 495's. Unfortunately I am stuck here at work.... have fun!

Weather is supposed to be blue bird on Saturday, chance of rain Sunday (that won't stop me).

P.S. Hah-hah, I win Brunettes....unless your wheels come before tonight when I pick up my new ride.

I havent seen any horns up at the shed so what does that tell you? JK guys.

HBT you know we are going to talk you into a yard sale right. Just one of those high speed cartwheels over the bars and then to the nut buster on a rock.

Rain or shine tomorrow right? The shuttle truck will be good to go. Come one come all.

Yes. It's way too short for my gangley ass. If I wanted a DJ bike it would be perfect but I really need a trail / all around bike. Dang it.

I can hang til about 2:30-3:00 at the latest, so the more runs the better. Less yammering and hardcore free-chatting this time perhaps. Not that there's anything wrong with that, it's just that I don't like any of you and would prefer not to make conversation. ;)

I'll be there as close to 10 as possible. But it seems like every time I try to get out the door by 9am I have to stop and get gas or inflate my slowly leaking tire or pull the bloody pulp of an unlucky elderly man out of my wheel well. Such a hassle.

In honor of the momentus ocassion I may even wash my car today and clean some of the petrified chicken mcnuggets out of the upholstry.

HBT you may want to ditch the dead hooker out of the trunk as well. Less traveling mass. By the way we are a bunch of dicks anyway so no small chat tomorrow. Just some great crashes and trash talking.
