View Full Version : Chainrings?

I have putting a RF evolve crankset on my new bike, and am going to run 2 rings with an e13 DRS up front. I'm fairly sure that the stock 22, and 32 aren't going to give me the gear ratio that I want, so I want to replace them with a 26 and 36 respectively.

Can anyone think of any drive problems with this setup?

and, more importantly, where can I get said rings. RF lists them, but no-one seems to carry them, or I'm not looking in the correct places. If you have some links that would be great.

Thanks in advance,

Marc

shouldn't be a problem at all. why dont you just get a 36 ring at keep the 22 ring? gives you a better ratio and it works fine.

22 tooth is worthless.....i cant believe they still spec bikes with them...

.....put a 26 or 28 on, it'll work out just fine and make your legs feel better in a matter of months.....

Nice Guide DirtyMike...

Where did you get the rings from? I seem to be unable to find them. I see them on RF's website, but my LBS said he couldn't find a 26 or 28, nor could I. The 38 is plentiful, but I would like to order from one place to cut down on the shipping charges...

Thanks,

Marc

email Dan at On Top Bikes. He hooks me up with Canadian bike parts all the time.

You would not believe how nice the Envy rings are. I use to break teeth on my other chainrings. I ran Envys all last year and no problems. They are ramped too so the shifting is nice and smooth. I transfered them to my new bike and I bet they last the next season as well. They show hardly any wear.

I've run a 22-40 w/ no problems and the 40 was a flat Truvativ DH ring.

With your screen name I can see why you think that:rofl:

I've used 22-36 combos on a number of bikes, works well.

you move like an inchworm with the 22.......26 you can climb 99% of stuff and climb with more power, lower candence and be less likely to loose traction........just my 2 cents......its a mental thing more than anything.....

With a 2-3,000' climb, on a big bike.....It would wear you out quick.
Even on a light XC bike I wouldn't want a larger granny, its more efficient to spin than lower cadence knee killing.
You live somwhere flatter than me, that is plain to see.

......not flat here....lots of steep headwalls, our climbs are only 500-700 foot though......on a 2.5 hour enduro ride we might climb1200-1400 feet max....we don't have thoose 90 minute climbs like the big giant mountains, just old beat down Appalachia here.......

Ahhhh.
Ours are steep fire road or singletrack ascents, usually in direct sunlight, for and extended amount of time...like 1-3 hours of climbing to reach a good peak, and turn around for some thrills.

Its the kind of thing where you can push a big gear for a while, then the steep pitch of the trail, sun, heat and nagging weight catch up to you. I get good use out of my low gears here, but maybe I'm a puss for not hammering it out with a bigger granny:rofl:
