riding ridges is usually best

03-09-2006, 11:42 AM
yea i know that, but i want to find the most direct way down, i know i can do a 20 foot drop, but i havent tryed anything larger, i was thinking about riding the far left, it seems less steep.
The picture could be screwing with my perspective but it seems as though the right side cutting diagonally towards the left is less steep than that of the left side. Am I wrong?

Yeah i see what nato means the right does cross over and it does look less steep, i should have quoted him, goddamit!
Only issue with it is that is a straight run... if that even is an issue? You just dont have many options to slow down besides skidding on your breaks. Do it n video tape! (I wanna see the gorey video :) )

Okay, Have fun. What cha gonna do about the snow?
"So every spring, the march begins as skiers, snowboarders and the curious make the three-hour, three mile climb to the snow-choked Bowl. From late March to May, and sometimes into early June, the Tuckerman Ravine Trail is like an anthill with board-carrying thrill-seekers making the pilgrimage."

Tuckerman's is crazy steep! At the base lodge just read the list of all the people that have died skiing it! If you can pull off a ride down it I'd be seriously impressed. What you need to do is make sure you get some video of your attempt.
Good luck, you're gonna need it!

I have some buddies Who hiked up the Cog railway trail with there bikes , with the intent of riding down tuckermans. ( these Guys have Big Balls too, and all had skiied it ) they got to the top of the bowl , and non of them could pull the trigger, said it was just stupid steep. so they road down the auto road and almost got arrested for that. ( got off with tresspessing tickets )

Do us and yourself a favor and don't do it. Some things just aren't made to be. By the way, the picture you posted wasn't Tuckerman Ravine but instead Hillman's Highway.

One more thing, ever seen Tuckerman Racine without snow? It is basically about a million huge boulders stacked up on each other, kind of like the lunch rocks.

I really don't think you will be able to do it, those rocks under the snow you know are huge... some things are just not possible. Sorry to say it, but no go.

Im good friends with greg, he is going to do it this summer but he needs to talk to the conservation officer. He also needs to get health insurance. :)

I highly doubt he will do it this summer... BTW the Mountain Rangers or whatever you want to call them * most likely won't stop you. It is WMNF land.
On another note, run the idea by the guys at www.timefortuckerman.com/forums They know almost everything there is to know about Tux...

06-14-2006, 04:03 PM
Yes i know but the Conservation officer will be the one that reports you and gives you a ticket, I have gotten one before from an officer.
Yes, he is doing it this summer if Tuckermans drys up.

Alright have the camera crews ready... just trying to say, if anyone was going to do this, it would be someone like Darren Barecloth... It is literally a series of drops.

Ain't no way you're going to ride Tucks. You might ride the ridge above it and to its left/right, but you're not going to descend IN the ravine. You're kidding. You must never have been there, or if you have, you are hoping that nobody else ever has been there and they don't know it's waaaaaaaay too steep to descend on a bike.
The fact that you say you can do 20 foot drops is the first clue that you're fantasizing. 20 direct vertical feet at the pitch and speed you'd travel down Tucks would be about a 100 foot drop.
You must be joking.
Pat...
10-23-2006, 07:27 PM
Maybe you should bring a trials bike. Good luck, if you do it! Make sure someone who knows what they are doing and has a good camera films it.

Actually where the Lunch rocks are is still a good hike up from the base.
Anyone who says they would do it after standing up there makes Bender look like a true Thinker of our time. Seriously. if you've been there and still say you'd do it, you're broken.
