I weight around 80kgs and am finding the standard spring in RS Pikes to be a bit too soft. Someone has offered me a brand new X-Firm (Black) for a good price will this be too stiff for me and should I go for the Firm (Blue) instead or should the X-Firm be all good?

hm, 80 kilos, eh? If my conversion is right, that's 176 lbs or so? I'm 185, and the firm spring is all I need. Check your oil levels if you're bottoming too much first, tho.

does it matter how much oil is in the side with the spring? my LBS switched springs and didnt replace any of the oil that leaked out the bottom of the sanchon (sp?).

Check the website and download the manual. I just changed out mine from stock to x-firm the other day (~200lbs).

There's 15ml or cc of oil in the lowers and grease on the spring. Quick and easy change out.

On a related note, which pike spring would you recommend for dirt jumping? I weigh 175-180, so I'm kind of inbetween spring weights rock shox recommends. I'm leaning toward x-firm, but don't want to lose too much sensitivity (the travel feels too nice, haha)

I used my Pike for Ski Hill riding and hit lots of tables and doubles with it. I used the stock spring but had to ramp up the compression alot to avoid harsh bottom out which made for a rough ride.
I haven't gotten any good ride time yet with the x-firm but they do feel like a better fit for me .... I won't be running any compression dampening.
I would say stick with the firm for all around and get the x-firm if all you are doing is jumping.
