Nothing wrong with voluntary prayer. I pray on a volunteer basis everyday. But why should a government entity have anything to say about prayer?

Haha that's rad.

Let's look at the best part one more time.....

religious displays on public property are not a coalition of church and state, but rather the justified recognition of the positive role that Christianity has played in this great nation of ours

Good thing there's never been a negative effect of justifying killing and pillaging through christianity. I mean the recognition is "justified"........the role is "positive". Can't argue with that.

Who knows. They passed a bill that said "voluntary prayer" is ok. Maybe someone tried to outlaw that.

This is some stupid assed s***.

They are trying to codify that god exists. They think the founding fathers were Christians. They think that they need to codify that voluntary prayer is legal, when it is enshrined as a right in the First Amendment, and also part of the state constitution. And, they are codifying that religious displays on public property are not a violation of separation of church and state. How back a**ward can you get?

Missouri.....

isn't there some kind of lil gambling/country western /old people place there????

Branson?

I am starting to think that the states with the most old people are the most religious. Not only are they trying to save their skins for eternity, they're convinced that they must save ours.

Being from MO (I lived there for the first 29 years of my life) it's not really anything to get excited about..........there's a little bit of good single track.......but that's about it.

Exactly. I don't understand why prayer, voluntary or mandatory, needs to be explicitly allowed as long as it is not disallowed. Do it on your own when you can. I do not disagree with the right for an individual to pray in school, but I do not trust any level of government to be assisting this in any way...same goes for education about religion- I agree with the principle, even in public schools, but I doubt the ability of our governments to do this in a fair and balanced way.

the problem with the legislation isn't prayer, but if that link is true and an accurate, they're PUSHING the christian god.

If someone sued against prayer, they should just say voluntary prayer is allowed and schools should accomodate such requests... like don't muslims need to lay out a blankey and do stuff?

I wonder why christians can't just close their eyes, pray and STFU. Nobody would be the wiser, or really care for that matter. It wouldn't matter if they were in a government building or a public school, they would get their time with their god and everyone would be happy.

Because sometimes we like to do it out loud, and people complain because they think their rights are being violated. However, I think separation of church and state goes beyond just not pushing a Christian God, but not pushing any god at all. Period. True separation means that there is no government involvement in religious causes, and considering how subjective that can be, I think our government has done a pretty good job so far.

Just as a point of clarification, I am of the opinion that this separation of church and state deal may have gotten a bit out of hand. The state is involved all the time with religion in ways we see clearly and ways we do not. The purpose of the laws we have is not total separation but, rather, to stop the establishment of a state religion. Often, protecting against one means doing the other, but they are not equivalent nor does our government operate as if they are.

If you don't lie about your unholy habits -- and they'd better be a bit freaky -- then you can't be a televangelist.
