So I have recently acquired a grinder and a press.....plus some good beans, but I just can't drink my coffee "black". Milk and sugar seems a bit "ordinary" for a true "coffee snob". What do you add????

I don't drink coffee, but a true coffee snob takes it black.
I have only enjoyed coffee once. It was fresh ground and French Pressed. Beans roasted by some guy in California, totally organic and oily. Amazing coffee. Didn't need milk or anything.
Of course you could try adding redbull

Try all different kinds. Some coffee just tastes like ass if it's black, some others would be ruined w/ milk or sugar.
I drink Italian roast black, or with a touch of 2% milk. Ahh...

Save your cream and sugar is for the Brits. Us Americans, we so it right: as black as the night.
Actually the only coffee I get is a grande mocha with whole milk and whipped cream to keep me awake/alive during class. I feel like a pvssy. Good ol' Starbucks :o:.

I'm not a coffee snob...I'm a coffee junkie.
Snob = very particular taste and looks down upon anyone who doesn't drink only the finest stuff
Junkie = not particular at all, just give me some damn coffee and I don't care what the hell kind it is

junkies don't have standards.:monkey:
I work with a guy that is 61. He used to trade 'dope' for 'esoteric coffee' back in the day at the U of Oregon because good coffee just didn't exist except by private roasters.
The advice was already mentioned that you should just try a bunch of different kinds black before you decide that you just can't do it. Here's a few suggestions:
A great one is Starbucks Black Apron Kona. It's insanely expensive but very good and not a lot more expensive than any other quality Kona anyway. Whatever you do, don't buy a "Kona Blend". You will hate yourself for spending the money. It isn't the same.
I introduced my little brother to Kona beans over Christmas and he says that's the only coffee he's ever had that is best black.
I really wanted to get to this place www.mountainthunder.com but we were running out of time to catch our plane and everyone wanted to go here http://www.originalhawaiianchocolatefactory.com/ instead.
Also, try www.ravensbrew.com
Our favorites are the "3 Peckered Billygoat Blend" and "Deadman's Reach".
And for some laughs, check this out: www.espressoporn.com (safe for work)

I first learned to love coffee when I was 14 working in a bike shop that brewed the deepest, darkest espresso roast in a nasty old Mr. Coffee that I don't think was ever cleaned. There was never any milk or sugar around and if you asked you would get berated by the lifers. It was bitter and vile and I loved it.
I take it black, sometimes a little sugar if it's low quality or been sitting for a while.
Kona Coffee - black - nuff said.

Kona is very nice and not as expensive.
^way overpriced & nothing special.
To the original poster: Once you go Black you never go back. The blacker the....well you know. ;)
Also the key to great coffee is freshness....you could have Kona or Blue Mountain but it wont matter if your beans have been roasted more than 7 days ago.

in cuba people brew coffee mixed with peas inside gym socks and it tastes ****ing amazing. Kindof a french press but extremely ghetto. you get little shots of espresso w/sugar on the street for like 2 and a half cents.

Yep. Yep. Yep.
Anything you buy in the store is most likely (by most likely I mean a 90+% chance) stale. No, those bags don't keep it fresh.

Too bad it's so damned expensive. My homemade quad lattes don't save me money but at least i'm properly tweaked for the day

MACHINE Chemex Filter Drip Coffeemaker $36
WHY WE LOVE IT Invented by a German chemist in the 1940s, this low-tech, nonelectric, hourglass-shaped glass carafe has a wooden collar around the middle. We loved its foolproof simplicity: A cone-shaped paper filter fits in the top of the pot and boiling water is poured through the coffee grinds.
Mine just broke. It was 30 years old. My wife dropped a dish on it in the sink. :(
RIP H8R's Chemex.

Real maple syrup adds a nice flavor especially in winter.
