I do NOT like unions. These union guys i worked with at the airport fueling planes, etc were lazy.
I did sooo much more work & when i didn't want to join thier stupid union & pay the stupid dues they said "YOUR ON YOUR OWN" & then i did even more work on purpose to show them they were fat sacs of lazyness. One guy was there since 1970 & moved as slow as molasses & couln't fuel the airlines cause he weighed 300# & the weight limit on the ladder was 260#.He pretty much needed to go home. But NO the union protects !
I'm just against unions after that experience. Unions do not reward hard work is the bottom line.

** Does JAPAN have unions in thier car manufacturing facilities ?Just curious if they do or not ?

Surveillance caught 10 Montreal city workers goofing around for 81 of the 90 hours they were supposed to be filling potholes.

Staff instructed by a Montreal city official to observe the group said the union employees managed to fill just 10 potholes in the 90 hours they were watched.

The rest of the time, employees hung around in restaurants, doing their banking and driving around -- all on city time.

So they get deciplinary action.Come on they need to get real workers in there..Makes we want to keep a SUV though with bigger tires than a car..
How do these Fast n Furious vehicles manage with those ultra-low profile tires anyways ?

I think that because now we have legislation to protect workers, the unions have pretty much outlived their usefulness. The market dictates the wages (here in the south) just fine.
I recently read that $1500 of the (average) price of a new GM vehicle goes DIRECTLY just to pay for the workers, healthcare! That is crazy, and doesnt even count the rest of the benefits they get. No freaking wonder they cant compete with the foreign auto makers. Unions are killing some industries and hurting the US economy.

Japan has a history of actually protecting their workers while western companies try to get every penny from them. The Japanese company I work with has never laid person off, ever. When they got fancy machines to wash the factory floors they sent the Janitors to school to become engineers. Not defending the Unions just saying the comparison to a Japanese company doesn't really work.

:stupid:

For the most part I think all of us can probably have benefitted from the work that Unions have played. But their time has past, at least in their current configuration. If there is any hope for Unions in the future they need to stop just fighting with companies for more money and benefits and start working with companies reduce the cost of labour, providing their members more job security. Doing things like possibly taking on the healthcare costs themselves, working to reduce healthcare costs by contracting with local hospitals and even having their members sign contracts promising not to sue for malpractice.

I think what this clearly illustrates is that the average American blue-collar worker is so dumb that they need union protection in order to stay off welfare.

The other side of that is that there's literally tons of dead wood in a lot of Japanese companies. While they may not outright fire your arse they'll do things like give you an office with a table and a chair and nothing else. You have to sit at that desk day after day doing nothing at all. Of course it's all designed to get you to quit. I'm not making this crap up. A lot of Japanese companies do all sorts of evil sh*t to their workers Westy. Not to say though that you're company isn't good mate, just that a lot aren't.

You are wrong, they are too drunk. And aren't we talking about Cananadianans here? Canadianan Union members are one step down from US Unions. US Union workers are highly motivated and participate in extra curicular activities such as organized crime while their Cnaadian brethren just chainsmoke and drink Lablatts.

Not that it matters because in much of the US, there arent any Unions, like in my state, and the blue collar workers arent on welfare. I guess you're just resentful of their pretty teeth.

Actually you'd probably be all right if you worked in Japan. A lot of Japanese companies don't dare treat their foreign workers* as badly as they treat their Japanese ones because they know that the foreign workers by and large won't put up with too much sh*t. the Japanese workers tend to just grin and bear it. Being stoic for no purpose is a virtue in Japan.

Id rather my woman be.
But anyway, your point still doesnt hold up because, as I said, much of the country is non-unionized. As for Americans being dumb or whatever, its not like it takes smarts to do construction or something. Its a wierd thing tho. My dad didnt graduate high school, but he could build a house completely by himself, build a working vehicle from a pile of parts, weld, do masonry work, electrical work, manages the construction side of a good sized company and at 50, could still knock you out with one punch. Id rather be whatever that is than, "smart"

Oh man! You are right about that too. When I was living in Hawaii, lots of Japanese people came there to visit and wow! I thought maybe 'the bomb' had caused it or something. Look like on some of them their tongue was in jail.

Depends - for the smarter Brit go for the regular accent as the Southern drawl will be seen as proof of bigotry and stupidity. For the dumber Brits the regular will be seen as patronising so go for the redneck image, it'll make them feel a degree of kinship.

If you're going to Essex just use the Southern drawl regardless.

Its a very different culture, altogether. Even the way they express pain.
I was in a DH race and there was this dude named Tomishiro (I know this because the only english he spoke was "I am Tomishiro. I am from Japan")
Anyway, the dude has this gnarly crash and you could see his hip bone throug a large gash in his side. He just sat there real quite. No whimpering or anything. I kept waiting for him to disappear in a cloud of smoke, but he just left in an ambulance.

As I said earlier pointless stoicism is highly valued. Women (including my missus both times) aren't given any painkillers during chilbirth. I broke my wrist in 2001 and had to have it pinned. The pain meds they gave me where useless. I was literally begging for something stronger. Their answer was basically "suck it up round eyes". They gave me some suppositories for pain but I might as well have shoved them up my arse for all the good they did. (Yes Fluff I know that joke is old. No I won't stop using it;):redX: )

Oddly enough I never get given any decent pain killers when I break anything - collar bone and ribs in recent years and nothing stronger than Ibuprofen. Other people I know get all sorts of goodies. Maybe I look like I abuse painkillers or something but it just drove me to smoke copious amounts of skunk.

I have the same problem. For me it stems from the fact I go see my doctor and say "A bone has been sticking out of my thigh for the past week and it didn't seem to be getting any better so I thought I'd have you check it out".

I could go on for days about the union. I’m a non-union management member for a union company, so I have firsthand experience with the union. I could write story after mind-boggling story about the union and their leaders.

To be honest, there are some union members who actually have a good work ethic and who care about their job. The problem, however, the union business agents attempt to brainwash the union members into being “union employees,” making employees feel like if they are “company men” they are sell-outs.

I have seen business agents defend employees who have assaulted supervisors, fellow employees etc. The union’s business practices truly defy logic…

A century ago, the union had its place in the American workforce. At that time working conditions were terrible—safety was compromised and employees were not compensated fairly for what they did. Now, we have government agencies who monitor safety and union employees are paid way more than they are worth. For example, I saw one union car washer who made almost $70,000 a year—most car washers make $6.85 an hour-plus tips. This guy is making more money than most college graduates make for the first 5-years of their working careers…
