View Full Version : I want to build a freeride/DJ bike I need frame help
Hey guys, I currently ride a few 19.5" XC bikes, and my DH is a medium big hit. The sizing feels fine on both. I am 6'3/4" and Im planning on building my first hardtail DJ/ Freeride bike for riding in the city this summer. I'm obviously going to ride 24's and im looking for a frame that would be the perfect size, I just wanna grab a frame that will feel like I've been riding it forever. I hate the feel of all BMX bikes and cant do **** with em. I've never ridden a true dirt jumper either. I got one shot at this so I wanna make sure I get it right. Chromo is preferred ove aluminum. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Nate

Do you fit the bighit well? I rode a medium three years ago when I was like 5'6". Specialized has some nice stuff. they have the P series, and there is even a Cromo one in there, but the build is somewhat half-assed. Any of the P's would do you right. If you can throw down the money, get a P.3.

I would advise against any P series simply due to the sizing. I had a P.2 frame (long) that I just sold. I am 5'9" and I thought it was a little tight, nevermind someone being over 6'. Since they only make long or short sizing I think it will be too short. It may be OK for jumping and urban but anything else it was impractical.

I don't know!!! you tell me! :) (I have no clue)
I wouldn't be interested in a P anyway due to the fact that I need to build the bike... I already have a nice 24" rear and crappy but useable fork. Im really looking for sizing for now cause Im gonna have to nab a used frame or trade one of my big hit frames for it. What do you guys think about a brooklyn... too small?
Thanks for the input so far!

Check out a Soul Cycles Titan, you're probably gonna want to go with a 15ish in bike if your gonna do more dj, or a 17ish in. bike if your gonna do more freeride. For your height, and since you ride a 19.5in XC bike, id go for a 17

I'm 6'1" and ive been riding a norco sasquach, which is a good all around bike, strong, and would probably be a lot of fun on 24's. If you look into frame like this and decide your interested let me know I might know of one pretty cheap.
Thanks, right now I have the opportunity to test ride an azonic steelhead at a lbs. The owner has the same body type as myself so it makes it seem like it might be a good fit as well and the price aint shabby neither. Anyone vouch for steelhead for someone my height?
Thanks,
Nate

i second the .243 thing. I know a couple of guys who have been real happy with them as everything hardtails. kinda heavy though.

can't go wrong on a steelhead, ther a bit on the heavy side, also you can get the frames new for 100 bucks so don't pay more than that for them

yep he's right. steelhead is the best choice. it can take anything from dirtjump, to freeride, sh!t i've even used one for 4x once. its an awesome bike, and if your rear der. ever breaks off on the trail just pull the wheel back into a single speed. :D but yeah azonic steelhead is the one for you.

get a long steelhead cheap but still a good strong frame. also they let you run 24" and v's if you like
where can I nab one for $100? the 06' frames at jenson usa are 175... also should I get a Large or XL? I think the top tube length is a lil' different in length... cant remember thanks to a great college sat night wooooooh.

^^ in regard to the above post, I was talking about getting the 05's for 100, that was from Jenson a couple months ago
yea, I remember the price change during the holidays... when i said 06' i meant '05 (brain fart). SO is there any way to STILL get the frame for that price or did I just miss out on the greatest deal of my ENTIRE LIFE?? thanks
