I'm just wondering how much of a bite this ticket is going to take out of my bank account, or how much I have to save. I was coming back from A-basin earlier today, and apparently I got clocked at 87 mph by the state patrol. That happens to be 32 over the speed limit, and because of that I have to go to court for it in the spring. I hear that colorado requires that you pay 10 dollars for every mile an hour over the speed limit, but I'm hoping that won't be the case. The cop says that they'll reduce it for me but maybe he was just talking about the points (which there were 6 of).
So... I think I'm going to try to save like $400 just in case the fine really is insanely expensive, but does anybody have an idea what the fine would really be? Or if they can reduce the fine in court?

I got caught at 95 in a 55 on the way back from Beaver Meadows DH last year, and to make matters worse I passed the cop (unmarked durango) and immediately pinned it. Took him 15 minutes to catch me. Fortunately he was real cool, didnt take me to jail, and ticketed me at 75 in a 55, 120 bucks.

I'd be so glad if mine got as low as $120, but I'm thinking I need to get a job to cover this.

That is a TON of points. That's gonna hurt more than the fine.
A friends GF got a ticket around 100 in a 65(I70-E.Vail). Talked her way down with the prosecuting attorney - 10 over and 1 pnt.
Hopefully you are blonde, have large breasts, and legs til tommorrow. Otherwise, talk to a lawyer and stop speeding.

Whatever happens, you can take solice in the fact that you have never recieved a ticket for 1480 dollars (its a long story, that ends in me having to sell my Dura-ace TCR).

It's the same amount of points that my friend got for hit and run :nopity:

I got one for 87 in a 75 and the fine was $75. A couple months ago I got a ticket for doing a fish tail(total accident, not intentional). Because the speeding ticket was within a year ago my fine was $130. So do not get another ticket.

well I just didn't notice the sign I was 1 under the normal speed limit. I usually get out of school at 3 which has me going through that school zone after 4 (when it is not a 20 mph) but we had an early release at our school so I just forgot it was 2 hours earlier than I usually go through there.

Usually, when you show up to court, they will offer a reduced fine (believe me, I've been there many times). In my opinion, take it and pay for it. IF you can't afford it, let them know. They usually have option to pay it off, etc. If you can pay it in full, do it. You can always call the court and find out how much it will cost before a reduction.
Unless you weren't really going the speed limit or something close, there are ways to win. I have 4 huge binder full of documents that can help you win (Depositions, questions, engineering facts, Radar Manuals, etc), but that takes more effor than its worth sometimes.
I got 10 out of 11 tickets eliminated by scheduling a trial date and following through with it (not the hearing, or plea bargining session you'll go through). When you set it for trial, then more people take notice and you will waste sooooo much government time that they'll give up. (Is it really worth 200 bucks to spend 10k to prove it?).

I am luky my dad used to be a well known lawyer and now is the president of the college that prduces the majority of colorado police officers. He sais I should get half points or even less off if he knows the judge. But if the don't reduce it much I am gonna go to trial.

It used to be that 25 mph over the posted limit was reckless driving, that's 8 points....sadly so is doing donuts in an empty snowy parking lot. Actually I should thank the denver DMV, they introduced me to urban mountian biking back in '95

That blows. As a kid that is how I learned to snow/ice drive - empty school and mall parking lots. I'd have fought the hell out of that one. Where do you live?

In most counties you should be able to just send that one in (since its only 14 over) with the posted fine like $120 and they'll only charg you half the points.

On tickets over 30 over you get the mandatory court date. When your at court they usually wont offer you a plea bargin on the points, but they allow you to describe your particular case to the judge, and then the fine is there discretion.
On a ticket over this many points it may be your best choice to schedule it for trial and try and get out of it. It may end up costing a little more if you loose, but if you can get it droped or win some how, six points is alot.

The real question is, How did you hit 87 miles an hour on I-70 with after ski traffic? that is amazing
stringcheese
02-16-2006, 02:37 PM
Nah the traffic was light. I woke up freakishly early so I could ski before class. I was running a little late for class on the way back (at like 1), hence the speeding.

Jose, the insurance company could care less if the cops are called, what they care about is that they have to write a check to fix the damage. If your insurance company pays, your rates will probably go up. If it wasn't your fault your insurance should not have to give him any money to fix his car.

Your rate might not go up, but it depends. A while ago I backed up into some van at a gas station, and ****ed up the front corner of his car while leaving no damage to my car. This was definitely my fault. When I was explaining the accident to the insurance agent he somehow twisted the story to make it seem like both of our faults. Never heard from insurance or the guy I nailed ever again, and the rates are just the same.

I talked to my lawyer dad he says even if the kid says it was only my fault, the insurance has no reason to pay, and since no ploce investigators came it would be my word against his and vis-versa so each insurance company would just have to pay for their car (my insurance for mine, his for his) and since no damage was done to my car, mine will not go up since my insurance will not even be involved.

Um I got a speeding ticket last year in the Poudre Canyon. Clocked me doing 90. I went to court. I donated 25 dollars of my fine to charity, it was only 2 points and about 90 dollars in total. I don't know what these other people are smoking.

I just got one in Utah coming back from Vegas. 101 in a 75. It was 350 bones! I'm not too sure about how many points I'm gonna lose because it was out of state, but it really sucks. My first ticket, and it was a good one!
