The XC course for the Sea Otter classic has recently been posted. They have changed it a lot this year and I don't think it is for the better. Beginners and Sport classes are doing a shorter 2 loop course that doesn't include Couch Canyon or the Goat trail. It appears to be mainly fire roads and a small amount of single track. BTW, the expert class does include Couch and the Goat trail, downside is that is about 30 miles...I'm not ready for a 30 mile XC race just to ride the "fun" trails.

If the expert xc race is only 30 miles this year then that isn't necessarily a downside. The old expert course was 2 twenty mile laps, which is pretty long for an early season race.

Wow, it seems that every time there is a change, it adds a couple of miles. 30 miles now? Damn. Wonder what course the Industry Cup is gonna use? I think they usually stage them with the beginners or something, but I guess we'll see...

I didn't check the total miles. I think the course last year was 2 18 mile loops (36 miles). I did the sport class last year, and don't think I am quite ready to do 2 of those loops.
Wait wait...does that mean that bitch of a shallow, long climb at the end is gone? I want to draft for the Giant girlies again on the track...

Yep!! That climb is better know as the grind, and now it is a downhill. The have organized the course in the opposite direction this year. I am going to go ride the course on Saturday, and I will let you know.

What time are you going to be riding it? I might run down and do that. i was planning on going up to Marin, but I love the SOC trails and would be down for checking them out.
One 30 mile lap sounds nicer than two 18ers. Do they still have Hurl Hill and such? Expert Class here I come :)

Not exactly sure what time I am going. The boy has baseball try-outs and after that we will prob. hit the trail. The expert class still has hurl hill, but the beg/sport classes do not.

Maybe they will have it marked better this time, last time I was about 20 seconds ahead of the pack and then I hear this "You're going the wrong way!!" and I turn around and I'm about thirty people deep and 30 seconds away from the single track that was unmarked...bummer. Fun race though, I'm looking forward to it.
