It is finally time to get rid of my stock deore hub. I want something cheep, good engagement and long lasting. Which one out of those two hubs should I get? If you have anyother ideas on hubs that are not on this list please tell.
HOPE BULB DISC HUBS REAR $169
RINGLE ABBAH DISC HUBS Rear $116
Thanks for the help.

Adam, you're over it. Ride the Deore until it breaks. Why would you spend $100+ on a hub and onother $50 to build the wheel back up just to replace something that works fine?

Hey man, give him some credit. It is getting better, this post was somewhat legible. There is punctuation, capitals, proper spelling of (most) words.
OP - stay with what you have. Changing hubs just for the sake of changing is a waste of $.

I am getting a new a hub because i have had problems in the past with my it loosening. I also want my back end to feel a little stiffer and I thought if I were to get a bolt on hub, or something, that would do it.
I am also just asking for the future. I am going to use my hub until it brakes don't worry, but im just affraid it will brake on the trail and then i will be screwed. Also does anyone know the site for powertools components i tried to google it nothing came up.

Adam, is the a hub for your SX Trail? If it is, I don't think Ringle makes a 10mm bolt on, so you would have to go 12mm TA, and get either a Atomlab or Azonic adapter. Where did you find that price on the Ringle?
Oh and yes, your grammar is much better these days. Well done.

Powertool stems DH guys love, cheap, and almost identical to a Azonic Shorty. They are just a lower-end brand but for DH use say for a stem it's ok. I dunno if I'd buy the hubs though, can't be all that much better then what you have now.
I know Hope hubs are good. I have a bulb that I converted from QR to 12mm TA for stiffness. I don't think the SX trail can use a 12mm, but 10mm maybe. Hadley would honestly be your best bet because if you rear is 135mm, you can go QR/10mm/12mm all with the same hub. DT Swiss makes nice stuff too but I don't think they are as easy to change as say a Hadley.
The newest Hope hubs (pro hubs maybe?) you can get saint axles and stuff for, which is always nice. It just depends on what you have to spend and such. I run XT hubs on 2 of my bikes and haven't had a major problem with them yet, but then again neither hub is on my DH bike so that might be why :)

Thanks I needed to know that I forgot about the SX needing a 10mm. I have a power tools front hub and it has worked fine for me over the last six months, of 3-5 hour trail riding every other weekend. So if money is a problem I was looking at powertools to be a way out, but your right it is better to get a strong hub now and not have to worry about it in the future. Also what do you guys think about running a triple on the SX bad or good. I noticed this guy using one and thought it would be pritty cool to try. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b227/jgoeller/img_9155.jpg

As long as Specialized Warrenty says a triple is ok for that frame then it's fine. I know if you use a dual crown fork and crack the frame at the headtube there'll be some questions to answer and it might hurt the chances of getting another one under warrenty. I know Giant had this happen with their AC line of bikes a while back.
But I'd email or call them and ask. If they say you're good for any fork then so be it. You have a 6" fork on it alread though right? It'd be pointless to go to a 7" and depending on what 8" fork you choose it might make it hard to ride as it'll put that front end up in the air.

stright from the spec. owners enduro manual for 06

Yeah so couldn't I put a 170mm, seven inch junior t or a 888 on it?

ayup........but I'd skip the Junior T and just go stright for a 888 or Boxxer depending on what you like etc... If you could find a pre 8" boxxer that's new (or used but in good shape) that'd be another route as well.

It says 175mm is the max so wouldn't the boxxer at 8" or 203mm be to much? I think my LBS has on OEM 888 RC2X that is 7" or 170mm.
Spunger

The new boxxers are 8", but the older ones are 7". 2004/2005 I want to say are 7" boxxers, but 2006 are 8".
Either way, just make sure it's 170mm and you should be set.

I think that bike would be more fun with a SC. It would make it a little better for climbing and keep it a little lighter.
SXtrailrider
01-16-2006, 05:03 PM
Yeah i know, but i don't really use the bike for climbing just DH. The bike weighs just at 36.5 pounds so if i was to put a triple it would weight at 38.5-39 pounds which isn't that heavy and still pedalable.

01-16-2006, 05:05 PM
yeah i have a 36 talas, getting travel creep, which isn't that big of a problem it could be fixed, but i was thinking more travel to match my new SX would be nice. Like a 66RC2X or something.

Why on earth would you swap the 36 for a DH fork? Getting a 66 I could understand, but the 36 is just about perfect for the bike. Do you actually notice the travel creep or are you measuring it? If it's the latter, just stop thinking about it. You have the coolest bike in the world. Ride it and stop wanting to upgrade.
If the Deore blows up on you, I know Hadley makes some sweet hubs.

I wouldn't want anything but a SC on that bike. It's such a fun, flickable bike that a DC would be overkill IMO.

Thats just what I was thinking. 3or 4 pounds is noticibly bulkier; hard to move around. That (with the 36) is perfect for firestone, Parkfield, and Eelings. Thats all you really need for most of the races around here, hell, I do them on my HT.

That bike's fine for anything other than the gnarliest of trails. I rode a regular Enduro in Mammoth with no problems at all. I didn't want any more travel, and that had 6" F and R.

Thats why I am getting a 7" travel bike. 6" is enough, but 7" would be a little better over fast rocks. I prefer a lower travel, agile bike which is why I am looking at a bullit. I would like to get an '06 66, but they are too expensive, so I will be getting a used super-t. It has a fox 125mm fork, which I will keep for lighter stuff, like a lot of the races and trails around here.

Adam, dont put a 7" 888 on it. If you want to go that route, go with the 66RC2x. Just as plush, weighs less. Putting a big dual crown fork on the bike will just weight it down.
When you got your frame, you should have noticed a sticker on it, that basically said, dont put a fork on here thats over 175mm.
I know of a few people that put 170mm Dorado's, on theirs, and like the results, only because they are light.
If you want to put a 2006 Fox36 Van R (6.6"), I will sell you mine cheap. It came with my SX Trail, and is not even broken in yet. Its a great fork, I am just a Marzocchi fan.

If you are considering the 66, look at the SL too. It's pretty light at ~5.6 lbs and has adjustable travel.

I put my Fox 40RC2 on my Enduro SX and it was a lot of fun. It was set at 6" of travel though. Probably gonna do it for Pee Otter next year!

Does anyone know when the upgrade for the 36 talas to 160mm will be avialable?
