Gotta love those Taiwan steel frames! I bought a Soma a while back, it's 631, not quite a chi-chi as the 853 stuff, but I was impressed. Only things to look for are stuff like the disc mount aligned properly, etc, stuff like that. But for $240, hard to go wrong!

I have one. What do you want to know?

I have one. What do you want to know?
Is it a single speed?

I dont' want to make it into a single speed but most of the comments talked about how they love it as a single speed.

Have you been happy with it?

No, the one you linked to isn't the frame wtih the eccentric bottom bracket. You would have to use a tensioner.

A guy on MTBR had this to say;

1) The paint is not great. It flakes and chips more easily than I would have hoped. Looks good, and is reasonably durable, but this could have been better. 2) The Cable housing guides for the rear brake line are not at all crimped -- basically, the cable housing will just slide right though them as opposed to seating firmly.

I bought the EBB version and built it as a single speed. I don't have any issues, although it is really hard to pedal.

I know what a blow job is, but I don't want to know what a pain job is. Actually I think I'm working at one right now. Anyway, the paint seems fine to me. Haven't ridden it much yet, though.

I've heard that there isn't a ton of rear tire clearance on those frames, but if you are planning on running something like a 2.0 or 2.1 tire you should be fine. I think wider "all mountain" type tires might have a hard time squeezing into the chainstays.

Let us know how it looks all built up Stosh!

I went with steel on your suggestion. I'm looking to run some smaller tires like 2.1's so I should be ok.

As I was driving in today I was thinking about all the stuff I'm going to need to buy new. Seatpost, seatpost collars and so on.... should be a fun build for the rest of the winter.

what made you go with that one over the Nasbar frame (http://www.nashbar.com/profile_moreimages.cfm?category=130&subcategory=1176&sku=14736&brand=)? Steel, waaay better price, though I don't know anything about either.

That frame is almost a full 2lbs heavier for one. Different steel too.

Also, it's BLACK not that ugly blue. :)

Stosh - hope you love it. Lemme know what sorta stuff you need to finish the build as I may have a thing or two in the parts bin that I could send your way.
