I stayed in Ouray last summer for the Telluride race. Its a beautiful place. There are tons of trails on the Telluride side of free gondola. They are hard to find unless you get some local help. POlus there are some KILLER shuttles around. Plus Silverton is just south of Ouray. There is a house just around the block from the gondola. If you leave the gondola house get on the street and go left a block. Turn right and there is a white house on the left. Stop by there and try to get in some rides with those guys. They are super laid back and fun to ride with.

XC......looking for good heart rate climbs and sweet single track. Loops or Out and Backs preferably.

Buy a Latitude 40 degree's map of the area. They are the best for cross country riding in southwest colorado; all legal trails are GPS tracked onto US geological survey maps. (Uncle sam's Satilite's)

An epic decent in Telluride is off the backside of the mountain into Bear Creek. It's a 45 min drop on a full dh rig before you're back in town. The hike from the top of the gondola is long, but well worth it. A 5 to 6 inch xc bike would be ideal. The ridge trail is also sweet to access from the gondola on a dh steed, but is more of a 5-6 minute race run.

The secret trails are heaven, but you'll need to hook up with a local for those goods. Bring nothing less than a full 8 inches of travel and body armor. Jedi skills don't hurt either.
