In case you're trying to cover a part of your frame that can't be wrapped with a tube or that stretchy plumbing ****, is there such thing as 'rubber sheets' that have adhesive on the back? I know some people use that clear protective vinyl but is it thick enough to quiet down that sound of the chain slapping against the frame?

if your doin chainstays why dont you just use a tube??

double wrap it to make it quiet then run some electrical tape over it to make it look cleaner

I actually use protective vinyl sheets you can get at almost any motorcycle shop. I just wrap it twice in the chain slap areas....works perfect for me. It comes with more than enough for 3 bikes and you cut it to fit how you want...plus it comes in colors...D

What about a Lizard Skins or similar wrap? They look clean and they're pretty cheap. Would it work on your bike?

wazn't there a guy here talking about a rubber like tape that only sticks to itself do to friction and you just ra it on doesn't stick to your frame or anything

It's adhesive, the zip ties are there for added security.

Comes in sheets, go to the craft-materials part of wal-mart.

No chain/derailer slap here.

You can even see the derailer-quieter idea that shimano stole from me. :D

^ Get some pipe wrapping tape. Get the thickest you can. I got the narrow width 20mil one and wrapped it overlapping. The pattern of the words and spaces came out really cool.

It works so well. I found red curb paint on both chainstays (i'm not sure how...really), so I put it on both sides. This prevents my stays from the chain, and walls/ledges street riding....It works so well.

Yes Is a Vulcanize tape, that will catalize In contact with his own material and bond togheter, you can find it at a good marine supply store but is super expensive ($16 per 3/4 x 5" roll)...

It looks like this..

this is another sistem ussing ,3M 2.0 thick protective "scothcall" tape and then adding 3M "scothlight" reflective tape for added safety....

But I think Chris is looking for something else..
maybe something as easy a sticking velcro to the frame and then stick some rubber on top of the other side of the velcro..

Jm_: What is that behind your cassette?

Vycor is a roofing/siding product that has the properties your looking for. I think it's sold under the name "Grace Ice and Water Sheild" now.
Rubber with sticky stuff on one side. If it sticks to itself, it will NEVER come apart.
Fairly cheap too and comes in a variety of widths.

It's a metal spacer in place of the 1st gear. Came stock on the bike. Good idea.

Yeah, it is cool. So, is it splined like the cogs? Seems like it would save some spokes. :)

A friend of mine, made this awesome "Guide" out of two old sprockets that made toothless with a grinder (not the big ring, that is the "chain tensioner")

You might have the answer!

patineto is right, I'm looking for something to cover an area that can't be wrapped in the swingarm.

What Area...
the swingarm in your Nicolai...!?

I made my own Guards for mine out of a thermoplastic carbon/glass material and work really well

You see where the chain passes behind that machined part of the swingarm, just before it meets up with the Rohloff hub? That's where. When I had the bike built up, it was damn loud. You can't wrap anything there. I have to cut something and glue it.

Oh I see...

how about some thin Delrin (nylon 66) "Cutting board material" GLue to the frame with Silicone or even double stick tape (maybe you have some CNC work in the back that will make the tape method useless)...

sadlly I don't think the "Rubberize" materials are going to work since the chain will wear them out, destroying them sonner or later, on the other hand the Delrin is made for that exact aplication and will last for a long long time...

anyway got luck on the project and your wise decision to keep the Nicolai

I'll look into that too...there's a cool Paint and Plastics store near my place. They have stuff like that. I think they also have paint that's flexible enough for painting coils for rear shocks.

they also make something call
"Tool DeeP" (thick rubber coating) or something like that is design to "make tool handles", maybe something like that will do the work too..
