I'm thinking of heading to Boulder City, NV for some fun in the sun this month. Can anyone point me to some great resources? Last year I tried this, there wasn't any maps, or shuttling info on line. I would hate to drive all the way down there and not know what to do.

Any experience or info will be appreciated.

Check out the Bootleg Canyon website. They run a shuttle service there every weekend starting at about 9:00am. All you have to do is show up. I think it's $20 for all day or you can pay per run.

if you want the good tour get in touch with Shawn Hawkins or Quinton Spaulding. Those two are two locals who know the mountain. Both ride for KHS and are really fast. I am going to be there on the 15th of Jan for a few days.

Where would be a good place to stay?

I have found some great info about the shuttle service.... now to figure out if its worth going down or not (long drive).

I believe you need to contact Boulder Bikes for the shuttle service. However, this time of year there are always people out there riding, so you can shuttle with some of the locals. I've been there several times, and have only used the shuttle service once; we always shuttle with our own trucks.

There are several hotel/motel options, but one of the best is the Hacienda--it's cheap and it's a casino.

Just there Friday.....was a blast!

The trails are sorta hard to navigate unless you have a map or start to get familar with where you are going. The shuttle road isn't long at all (about half the distance of most SoCal shuttle roads). The trails are kept in great shape, sometimes to where a rock isn't really that far out of place. You can connect DH trails so you never ride the same trail twice! That's what I ended up doing, making it more fun.

There are maps in the front, and heated showers in the bathroom. If you walk some sections and ride first to get an idea that's the safest bet. There are lots of jumps/drops that come out of no where and if you're not use to that stuff it's sorta hairy. I am a novice when it comes to that stuff so I tried to bypass it but ended up finding some small ones that were fun. If you're into dirt jumps there's some there that are huge.

The parking lot was full on Friday (the 30th?) and lots of locals including Brent himself. I had talked with him and he sent me on some of the easier DH trails (which wern't that easy) but very very fun. I connected with some of the faster trails to really haul down the mountain. Having no hikers there is like a god-send.

Lots of people shuttle with their own trucks as it's not that far up. The dirt is very loose, dusty, and your car/bike will feel it. But I ran 30-32psi in my tires so I wouldn't flat and had no issues/problems at all. Rode for about 3 hours and got about 5-6 different runs in.

Go for it, just turn left/right at the Taco Bell on Yucca road. It's confusing to get there at first but once you know how to get there it's a piece of cake!

I'd like to head over to Bootleg Canyon myself when I get my new Yeti 303 built sometime at the end of January or beginning of February for some test runs and get it dialed in. It'll probly be some of my teammates and I camping out and riding for a few days. It's been a long time since I have been to Nevada this time of year. What's the temp like these days? I know it's nice right now.
Last time I was in Nevada this time of year was racing BMX at the ABA Grand Nationals wayyyy back when at Horseman's Park near Las Vegas.

Typically, the weather in Vegas/Boulder is pretty mild in the winter--with very little rain. However, I have heard that it has been really cold at night and in the morning--temps in the 30s.

Its looking like that will be closer to my schedule now. I have a feeling the first weekend in February will be the better shot for me. If you'd like to carpool, PM me.

There is going to be a race up there in Feb. Check out the Website: www.bootllegcanyon.org. I would keep an eye on the weather, but you should be fine...

The caldera on the backside of the mtn is offically the driest place on the entire planet, FYI. BC proper gets a little more precip, but it's still less than 2" per anum.
