2006 Specialized SX. My dream frame. It sucks cause it's been raining all week here, and no way in hell am I going to do a mudbath on the first ride.
Build specs are pretty explanitory in the pics. Notable are the Shimano 600 rear derailleur with a stupid short cage, shifts like a dream. Dura-Ace 12-27 cassette. Atomlab Trailpimp wheelset off of my DJ hardtail. Basically I canibalized my hardtail and a few parts off of my M3 to build this. Let me know what you think! And any recomendations are always welcome.
It's not quite what I want yet for racing, but it'll do.(ie: lighter wheels, stem, handlebar, E.13 chainguide, etc.).
Oh and yes my dog is very small. He has been through more sh!t than you can imagine, so please be nice. :)

Cool dog. Cooler bike. Lower that stem a little for the corners if it's a dedicated 4x/jump bike.

I think your corgi is trying to tell you you need to ditch those wheels and get a pair of crossmax XLs.

Took a close look at Duncan Riffles bike a week or two ago, he runs a Diabolous riser stem upside down and flush against the top crown of his fork, so his bars are super low. Seems to work for him alright.

Thanks guys! Yeah that dog is pretty dammed rad. He is totally deaf. He had cancer growing in his right rear leg, which had to be amputated. But he is doing so great though. I'm proud of the little guy...*tear*

Hey man, could you please do me a HUGE favor and measure the eye to eye of that RP3 shock? Any chance on the stroke too? I have a 2005 SX and the 5th air is blown for the third time. I don't have any rulers or tape measures with me here in Spain, so I can't order a new rear shock. How does the RP3 feel on there, is it plush enough for long XC rides and mellow downhill courses?
Thanks! Looking forward to having a good bike again...

According to specialized.com it's a 7.5x1.75.

Ok. First ride on it today. Holy crap this bike rocks! The fox on the rear works awesome with it too BTW. It is sooo low and stable. Plenty of room to get the seat up high for XC, and low for everything else. This is my new all around bike for now, until the season starts. I highly, HIGHLY recommend this to anyone looking for a fast, fun bike to have.

Rad, glad you like it! I'm gonna toss a Vanilla RC on my 2005, as long as it fits and stuff.
Anyone know if the Vanilla RC will fit with the piggy back and all? If you push the DU bushing out of the shock where the oversized mounting pin goes through, it fits perfectly on the mounting pin. The only problem that seems apparant is the junction between the shock and the shuttle, and there might be an issue with width of the rear mounting hole. I tried to toss a 5th coil on there, and it wouldn't fit because the shape of the shuttle, but everything else seemed dandy.

I would think that you could order a SX trail shuttle for you're bike to fit the shock.

If you haven't checked them out yet, there are some spirited discussions regarding shock fitment and shuttle interchangeability between 05 and 06 Enduro and SX models over at the Spec. subforum on mtbr.

Apparently the 06's are a little different in that region to accomadate 6.7" of travel.

No one has pondered putting a new shock on the regular SX on the MTBR forums, it's all SX trail and DHX questions.
So a Vanilla RC with a 7 7/8" i2i with a 2" stroke would probably fit travel wise, longer stroke and longer i2i, but the shock shuttle is an odd little bastid, and won't some shocks, plus the ribcage is a little on the Kate Moss side of things. Does anyone have a Vanilla laying around that they could compare to kinda see if things line up?
If I was rich, I too would be complaining about the issues of mounting up my new DHX air and coil, but alas, I eat spaghetti four times a week, substitute beer on the other nights, and eat left overs found on restuarant tables. With $50 a week for food and clothing, a Vanilla alone is pushing the $$$$ envelople. I've never heard of or seen a 2005 SX with a Vanilla RC or R. I don't want or need more travel, I just want a bike with a shock that works reliably. This might work, and if it does, it'll be cheap. But if not, arrrrggg, shiver yar timbers.

Mike, I missed this, but you are bringing this bike to g'ville, just to let you know. Our spot is taylor made for something in between a DH bike and a DJ hardtail. That bike, like my foes, will absolutely shred it. I love it.
